Reason to be prepared as Texas is the most populous in the CONUS and growing strong by the day. Economy is strong and a magnet for crimes in all forms.
North Dakota ranked no 50, safest place ---nothing but barren permafrost.

Yeah. I've been thinking about move out to Nevada for quite a while not. New Mexico isn't far off at #2.

I hope it will not get worse but better here in Texas. Im afraid Houston has shortage of cops which will make these criminals brazen to do their operations here, like drugs, gangs, burglaries etc.

I take this report with a grain of salt. They say they considered the rates of "murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft" equally. The Texas penal code does not contain either rape or motor vehicle theft. The corresponding crimes are sexual assault and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. It's a lot easier to be charged with one of those than with rape or theft.
If you look at the
FBI uniform crime report for violent crimes, though, Texas is pretty bad.

Texas is actually #12. We were at #11 last year. We moved 1 notch up the safe scale.

I don't know how they came up with these rankings. I can say that I won't lose any sleep over it.

Intersting that the top 3 are all grouped together geographically, and two of those have long Mexican borders. Coincidence?
Even more interesting is Maryland at 4th place, despite having some of the strictest gun laws in the country. It's easy to say crime is up because the populace is unarmed, but there's got to be more to that story.

Maryland is highly urban, that is, most of the population is in cities. Concentrated drug traffic and gangs thrive in cities.
If you look at the Uniform Crime Report that I mentioned above, South Carolina is similar.

To paraphrase Ron White: If you ever get the chance to go to Baltimore...pass on that.
