Because I am on the road so much for my job, and because I can move my pistol from anywhere in my Jeep to my SOB holster in less than five seconds, I choose not to carry on my person when I’m in the car. Other than the Fobus home/vehicle mount, I was not able to find anything to my satisfaction for quick/easy access to my pistol. Then I tried clipping my XD paddle holster to the door panel of my Jeep. I can now reach right between my two legs and under my left thigh to access the XD in the blink of an eye. This may not work for you because of your preferences, car, etc., yet I thought I would share this tip that has made my life a little easier in case it might do the same for you.

One last note: I do not have a heap of experience with paddle holsters, so I don’t know if they are all made like mine. To clarify, the clip on my paddle holster which would keep it retained under the pressure of a belt in your pants is the reason that this works so well. That same clip hangs under the edge of my panel, making it a secure enough to not shift during travel and to stay clipped when I draw my pistol. Let me know if this helps anyone.

I HIGHLY doubt anyone would question that - any "normal observer" (or however it is defined in the handbook) would not be able to see the pistol down there. I would consider it concealed.

I guess common sense should have provided that I don't leave it there all the time. I know the laws; You'll note that I said this is where I keep it when I'm IN THE CAR. Besides, you couldn't see that gun even if you were riding shotgun. It sits tight between the door and my leg. Thanks for the thought though.

I guess that I'm just OVERLY cautious, for I don't wish to handle my weapon each and every time I open the car door!

I know that I'd go to a gas station and forget to move it, and then...

But, I have a feeling that you would not.

I know lots of dudes that pull out their wallet before they sit down in the car.

or smokes.

I hear what yer sayin', but once you get used to the habit, you don't forget.

What about a traffic stop?

The way I see it, you risk being seen making a furtive movement as you move it and raising the officer's alert level.

So i would really practice relocating it with as little body movement as possible.

I did notice that your gun in the photo isn't loaded.

Good eye! I wondered if anyone would notice... No the only reason it was unloaded was because I was in the house about to strip/clean it, and thought "I should post this on the CHL forum". So I just ran out and shot 4 quick pictures without the clip.

I carry in a similar method in the door pocket or wedged between my seat and the console if I'm driving for a couple of hours. I cover the gun with a rag.

Why would you need to move it for a traffic stop? You don't leave your car for such an event (at least not initially). The officer is going to ask if you're carrying a gun and where it is when you hand him your CHL, and then he will know. If he feels he may need to, then he can simply "disarm" you by opening the door and de-holstering the gun. That's way easier than having him disarm you from an IWB or God-forbid a smart carry.

I carry my glock in a paddle holster cliped on the back pocket of my passenger seat I just have to remember to move it before letting people ride in my back seat.
