In the Baltimore, Maryland, area Tuesday, a police trainee was shot and seriously injured during a training exercise in which no live ammunition was supposed to be present.
Numerous police personnel have been suspended, and all training has been put on hold until investigations are complete.

It sounds like a "shoot house" exercise in a disused state building that went awry.

Departments should have procedures in place for training events. When those procedures are not followed, tragic accidents like this happen.

I don't doubt the state has procedures, and I don't doubt the procedures weren't followed. That is how these things happen.

In Arlington we had an officer killed like this just a few years back, at a school no less. Joey Cushman

A police officer was indicted for two misdemeanors in connection with this shooting.
The officer who was shot can now walk and talk, and may be able to eat soon.

Don't ask me how the justice system works in Maryland, but even in Texas grand juries occasionally return an indictment for a misdemeanor.

Complacency kills, safety briefings may be boring but they are there for a reason
