I picked up a Ruger 22/45 Mark III today with rubber grips. I broke it down and cleaned it. I need some more practice putting it back together. I can't wait to shoot it. Anyone else have one? How do you like it?

I have this one in the LITE version. Very good .22. It seems to happily consume ammo without complaint. Fun to shoot!
Haven't tried cleaning it yet beyond a bore snake. I have heard it's a pain.

I bought a S&W 22A from TexasGal and it is a very nice pistol. I bought it for my grandson. The grip was to big for him.

I just bought the Ruger 22/45 from another Forum member. It is fits my grandson better. I know it is the better of the pistols, but I sure like the S&W 22A for me.

I don't like the fact you can't "sling shot" the slide on the Ruger and that is has to be dropped with using the slide stop. That appears to be the only way to get the slide to close. Still playing with it though maybe I just have not learned the in and outs yet.

Not being able to sling-shot the slide and magazines that don't want to drop free are two of the most annoying features of the 22/45 out of the box. Fortunately, there are a couple of very easy modifications that address both of these issues. For the sling-shot mod its as simple as removing a ball detent and spring, and its easily reversible. Additionally, you might want to look into the Bam bushing or the Tandem Kross bushing. The best part about both of these is that they're easy for even a novice to do, and can be changed back to factory configuration with ease. Either way enjoy the 22/45. Its a great gun and one of the best .22 pistols I've ever shot. The learning curve of assembly/disassembly is a little steep, but once you've done it a few times it makes it easier.

The Bolt Stop and Safety are tight on mine. I'm sure my wife and son will struggle with moving both. I tried my best to clean both and get all the grease out. However, they are still tight. Also, pulling the bolt ears back is a little tight. Does anyone have any recommendations on getting these to move more freely? I see videos where the movement is effortless.

I couldn't take it any more. You folks are a bad influence on me. After GigAg04 started talking about a new patrol rifle last year and got the itch again and ended up with my Colt M4. Now, you guys start talking about a new Ruger Mark III .22LR handgun. To top it all off, I had to sit on the sidelines yesterday and watch a .22 2-gun match with rifle and handgun. I have the rifle, but not the handgun. So, ...

I started checking on 1911 style dedicated .22's and found the Colt Government 1911 Rimfire models. Then I found that Cabela's carries the Gold Cup version. Then I found that the Cabela's in Allen had two of them in stock. Well, now they only have one. I grab my gun kitty and head out the door. I also found the Sig .22LR and it was nice. Comes with hi-vis yellow dot sights already, but the Colt's rear sight is fully adjustable and can hold 12 rounds. I'll just put a little dab of some hi-vis paint on that front sight. Can't wait to get it to the range.

I disassembled it again and got all the grease out and put a little oil on the ball that provides tension on the bolt stop, safety and a little oil where the bolt slides. Everything moves freely now. This gun is not easy to put back together, but I got the hang of it. I can probable put it back together in 5 minutes now. First time it took me 30-40 minutes.

I don't know if they will be a regular thing or not, but the one I was at yesterday was at the Terrell Rifle & Pistol Club. It was not on their calendar and I didn't know anything about it until I showed up for the IDPA match that morning.

Maybe. I'm using my family as an excuse to buy firearms. My wife and son wanted a 22 pistol and both liked the Ruger Mark III. My son is in the Boy Scouts and wants a 22 rifle. I'll get one soon. Most likely, I'll use them more than the family. I told my wife I purchased the 22/45 so she can get use to the feel of a 1911 and eventually she can move up. She said when can we get one. All I could do is look at her and smile.

I love my Mark III 22/45
I also did the modification replacing the Mark III 22/45 hammer bushing with the Mark II hammer bushing.
I failed to be able to re-assemble it properly (the 22/45 is difficult to reassemble, or I cannot follow directions).
Either way $35 to The Arms Room and a youtube link so THEY knew what the goal was, and it was done.

Yes, either of those bushing will work. My experience is with the Bam bushing, but only because when I was starting out it was the first one I found. Knowing what I know now I'd probably recommend this combo from TandemKross: http://www.tandemkross.com/cubecart/bus ... oader.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

With it you get their bushing, which eliminates the mag disconnect, causing the mags to drop free. It also negates the need for an empty magazine during disassembly/re-assembly; which in my mind is much safer. No chance of someone accidentally inserting a loaded mag (which they shouldn't have near them in the first place) into the gun while working on it. And, as Teamless mentioned above, it includes the Ultimate Clip loader. This will end up saving your thumbs if you're at the range loading mags for any length of time.
