I hope someone can shoot me an answer in the next few minutes on this. I am looking to save some money on bulk ammo because paying $10-$12 box for my .40 S&W target ammo is becoming a problem. Saw this at Cabela's...

THESE ARE THE TWO TYPES...

I was hoping someone could tell me the big difference between these two bullets and whether I should definitely save myself the $10 or if that's too small of a value to skip out in the FMJs.

AND... If I'm looking in the wrong place, let me know. Cabela's seems to be the cheapest for bulk ammo in the Austin area. Any help is appreciated.

Although it will be cheaper to shoot the LEAD ammo, it will foul your gun more than the copper jacketed ammo. More cleaning time.

Personally, I would spend the extra $10 to keep from having to clean as much! Ha!

I havent been shooting for very long but I'm going to have to with Marshal. Save ya some grief on the back end and Go with the FMJ.

OK, here's where the logic escapes me, please explain...
At $70.00 for 300 rounds, if my math is correct, that equates to $11.65 for a box of 50. You are spending up to $12 for the boxes locally. What's the difference? Plus there's shipping, waiting, etc. I see that you get a free ammo box, I wonder if that offsets the price of shipping...? You can pick up ammo cans for $3-$6 as far as I've seen.

I've looked at this option before and just don't see how it's cheaper!

It's not cheaper at all. It's actually more expensive. Not to mention, this ammo is remanufactured.

This really isn't a deal YoungGuy. Unless you really need a plastic ammo tin and want some ammo too!

Sorry, let me clarify. I wouldn't be ordering it online, I'd just pick it up since Cabela's is near my office. Second, I do like the benfit of the free box.

Can you reccommend any other sources for cheap, bulk ammo?

srsly, do a google search on cheap ammo and you'll get plenty of hits.

Ya, I think the website threw O6nop off. However, it's still barely a deal, if even one. The box is a plus, I guess.

If there is an academy, try there. I believe, after doing a random zip code search of Auston that there is about 5 or so Academys there.

Wanna bet? When I was in the Army they were incredibly stingy with how much we got to shoot. We basically only shot when we qualified.

That's the best they've got. They're $56 for 250 ct. Cabela's is $70 for 300 ct.

By my math, that makes Academy exactly one cent cheaper per bullet. So for an extra $3.00 overall, I get the box... but I've already got one. And, Academy isn't selling remanufactured rounds either. See you guys later, I'm off to Academy.

You might be surprised how little and seldom some soldiers get to shoot.

Sure did! I wasn't paying attention
Still, if you ever get a chance to go to the Saxet gun show, you can find lots of ammo there, some in bulk, some in boxes, even some in plastic bags.

Also, Sportsman's Warehouse in Round Rock has pretty reasonable prices if they can keep it in stock. They have .40 S&W often enough but they are always low on .45 ACP

I guess communicating in this medium can sometimes cause folks to miss a joke or three.

I remember one of my first posts - someone posted a picture of John Browning and said something like, "I don't know WHO this is or why anyone would put his likeness on a Christmas ornament." I answered back quickly who it was, totally missing the joke in that post. I learned later that EVERYONE here probably knew who it was.

To everyone's credit, no one called me a dork. I was just new to this forum and forum communication in general.
