The firm that I pay money to for representation if I ever get into a shooting incident is going to meet with me tomorrow to set it all up...

I was told I can add family members (who are legal to possess, use NFA items), so that makes it easy, there are only two of us who would utilize these pieces of equipment...

Since we do not have the items yet, we will go shopping, buy the items, then add the make, model, serial number on an appendix and then send that paperwork off to the pope (BATF) for their blessing...6-9 months as it stands now...By that time we will have had the one-two firearms adapted to receive (mount) the suppressors...And we're off to the races...

No fingerprints, photos necessary according to the lawyer at this firm...Just the paperwork, $200 for each NFA item noted, and $299 for their time and effort...

This is a great firm to work with on this and other firearms related issue...

Hopefully, by close to the end of the year, we'll have had several practice sessions with these supressors, and see how well they work...

Going to be a pretty penny for all this stuff, but hey...

The great thing about the "trust" is that it can be amended to include other family members later on...I do not plan on being around forever, so I need to make sure everything stays legal for those others when the final "cease fire" is called...

glad you took the plunge into the nfa world. just remember your trust isnt a gun toy club. Anyone wanting to be on my trust has to be willing to pay their fair share of expenses.
I set mine up with the intentions of only buying one... im up to 3 supressors now.lol

I think i know the firm you are using. LOL. Used them myself. Great guys and gals to work with. You are correct that there will be no fingerprints or photos needed and more importantly no CLEO signature. A Trust is the only way to go IMO. I sent my paperwork on Aug 14, 2012 and my transfer was approved on Jan 28, 2013. So about 6 months. Just send the Form 4s in and try to forget about them as hard as that might be.

Once your form is received you can call the ATF at (304) 616-4500 and give them your serial numbers to check the status of your transfer. Might want to call about 8-10 weeks after you mail them to make sure they got them and have went pending status. After that there is really no reason to keep calling. It is nice to know they have the paperwork though.

Congrats. I am very close to doing the same thing. I shot a suppressed walther a couple of years ago and was hooked.

Yep, done deal...I saw the number to the ATF on her board next to her desk, as we were inputting info...I have a co-trustee in the deal and one beneficiary just in case I kick the bucket...

I have the items we want figured out, I just gotta go work the deal get the info needed and the form 4's and poof...Thar she goes...I'll put a subtle reminder for 6 months from now (on my electronic rolodex/leash) to keep my eyes and ears peeled for activity...

Now the real thinking begins...You have to keep the proof very near you when these items are in use...So I wonder if a photocopy of the original "stamped" form will work if it is encased in a sturdy but transparent sleave, to protect from the elements...Just some of the things running thru muh mind...Keep the originals locked up in a "safe" spot...

What's funny now is I gotta figure out a way to get the feeling I have this big bullseye tattoo'd on my forehead now...

This will likely change sometime around August. The two significant changes are:
1) An individual purchasing an NFA item needs only to inform the CLEO after-the-fact. Ownership will NOT be gated on the CLEO's whim.
2) All persons on a trust must be fingerprinted/photo'ed/background checked before they may possess an NFA item.

Can you set up a trust before you plunk your money down on a NFA item?

Interesting. So if you already have items registered to a Trust what happens? I am assuming this will only affect new purchases? I had heard about the CLEO going away but not about fingerprints and photos for Trusts. I don't have a problem with it but it will be a pain to get fingerprints for my trustees when i make a purchase.

I would most likely just register future items as an individual if this happens. I am guessing that is there intended goal here. To get people to stop using trusts to bypass the fingerprints and backgroud check. However, I believe most people are really just using a trust so they don't need CLEO's signature.

What about corporations? Are officers going to need the same fingerprinting/photo/background check?

I would like to do that some day. Wish it wasn't so costly. I was told by the FFL that I would have to as well, as our sheriff won't sign off on the stuff.

Any reason you are going with a .308 and .223 can instead of a multi-caliber can?

I would love to do it for my .300 Blackout...if I only had the money.
