I had looked up the Children's Museum before going there on my our vacation to Houston over the weekend and saw it was supposed to have been posted, but was possibly owned by the city so not enforceable. Since I would be crawling around with a 13 month old I opted to leave my Glock 19 in the car.
I could not find any signs on my way in but I did double check on the way out and found this. It was VERY difficult to see and two large panes of glass away from the actual door itself, the spanish version was over to the far left on the other side of the doors as well.

Owned by the city or not this sign is practically invisible.



Just thought I would share in case anyone else googles or searches the forums for info on the Houston Children's Museum. I still don't know if they are owned by the city but I would guess "probably so" because they had a HPD Office "guarding" the front entrance at a booth there.

The Harris County Appraisal District website lists the owner as: CHILDRENS MUSEUM INC, 1500 BINZ ST HOUSTON, TX 77004-7112

Interesting. Could the city own the organization?

Like I said though. invisible 30.06 signs would be hard to prosecute. I won't be back to houston for a long time, if I do I'll have to keep this in mind when making plans.

The Houston Children's Museum is a 501(c)(3) charitable institution controlled by an uncompensated, elected board of directors with a compensated professional staff for operations. The organization is the most fiscally transparent charity I've ever investigated when considering a donation. All records are available electronically on their website, board membership is also posted. About 85% of revenue goes directly to operations, 10% admin, 5% fundraising.
The museum is rated as one of, if not the best of all children's museums in the country. All of their revenue is from ticket and shop sales at the museum and charitable contributions. The 2009 expansion and improvements were funded by a $35.5 million capital expense funding drive.
The economy being what it is they've absorbed several years of negative revenue to the tune of millions dollars, so as you consider your giving in the future, please give them a look.
The only governmental affiliation is an on site mini-branch of the Houston Public Library.

This has been most helpful as the information on the 3006 website was a bit misleading at first indicating ownership by the city.

Aren't' most Chucky Cheese's posted as well? I've read SO many complaints on these forums about Chucky's.

Most Chuck E Cheese restaurants I've seen have a 30.06 sign that does not meet the legal requirements for effective trespass notice (way too small). I may have chosen to carry in them on some occasions.
