Two robbers are dead after an attempted home invasion in Maypearl.

A woman was home alone when two suspects, reportedly, attempted to enter her home.

The woman reportedly called her husband to alert him someone was trying to break in.

When the husband arrived home there was an exchange of gunfire, killing the two suspects.

The male homeowner was injured, but initial reports indicate his injuries are not life threatening.

This quote says the husband killed the two suspects, but on the Fox 4 Dallas News they reported the suspects ended up taking their own life.

This article also says they killed themselves. I think that is strange. I wonder why they would have done that. Is that the latest thing when you are or think you are being confronted by the police, to just give up and kill yourself?

Once again, the only people I feel bad for is the homeowners. I'm flat out of tears to shed on violent crooks.

This is interesting, WFAA says that the husband came home and retrieved a gun from inside the house. Wonder how he got in with the BGs trying to get in? They did not hear/see him? Would be interesting to know the details of how this all unfolded.

The perps died of self-inflicted gun shot wounds, the husband returning home, got his gun, gun fight, wife ran to get her gun..... This isn't your ordinary home invasion scenario.

I hope you locals will keep us updated as the details get reported.

Seems both homeowners may have engaged the intruders. The two young men were heavily armed and apparently pretty desperate. The motive for picking this particular place may have been precisely because it was more isolated. So much for citizens not needing an AR to defend themselves with. Kudos to the local Sheriff for being willing to publicly state guns in the hands of the homeowners saved their lives.
It's sad that two young men went so far off the rails that their lives came to this end and these two innocent homeowners' were forced to become part of that. Some of us may feel silly walking around our own homes with a gun on us, but you may not be lucky enough to have time to run and grab one like they did. They are lucky to have survived.

Yes, sadly, sometimes your offspring rejects everything you have tried to teach and embraces the opposite. Peers often have the major hand in that along with drugs. Prayers for the parents of these young men. They have a terrible task ahead to bury their loved ones amid the heartbreak of how they died and what they did.

Fortunate for these homeowners they lived in Ellis County and not one county over. In Dallas County they would already have them charged with murder, or at least hauled before a grand jury.

And you know this from personal experience? Geez. The law is the same state wide. Dallas County has had numerous cases where homeowners defended themselves and were never charged. Sent to a Grand Jury? Sure. And there's nothing wrong with that. It stops the good old boy network from sweeping things under the rug. But charged with murder? Please.

The case will be presented to a grand jury anyway. All deaths by misadventure (murder, homicide, suicide, etc.) are to be presented to a grand jury by black letter law.

Do cases of suicide go to the grand jury?
