I'm in the service industry, mainly commercial, but sometimes have to do residential calls. As of now I always keep my pistol in my van because i do not have my chl yet. ( still in BG check phase right now)...There has been some calls where I felt I needed to carry. For instance, downtown Austin at night in high crime areas. I had the mind frame that I'd rather get caught with it than without it. So i packed it on my person anyway. My question to the forum is: If you called an a/c guy or plumber to your house and you saw his pistol in his waste band while he was working...what would you do. Would you get mad and tell him to leave... Ignore it... Or ask if he has a chl and have a little gun talk while he's there? I personally would rather see the gun than plumbers crack! Lol

If it stayed in his holster and he paid no more attention to it then say his gauge set, or any other tool in his bag,, Id say / do noting.

But understand that is from a CHL holder and a gun enthusiast.

Also understand that until you CHL comes in, don't be working on someone who is anti-gun, and expose your weapon, or you could start a panic issue with them, they call the cops and they show up, you get arrested for unlawful carry of a concealed weapon.

When you get your CHL, they can still call the cops, but then unless you are "intentionally failing to conceal" you should not be arrested.

I'd politely let him know that his pistol is visible. It's not really such a big deal. I've had 2 LEOs who did the same for me when I accidentally exposed while at a hospital (same hospital both times, different LEOs, no 30.06).

In the reverse scenario: The other day I was working in my garage/wood shop and was not wearing an over shirt so my pistol was in plain view. Our municiple water guy showed up to check on our water pipes because of a leak I reported. He did his business and then came up to give me a report on what they were going to do. He saw my gun and it turns out he's a CHL as well. Needless to say, we spent more time talking guns than he spent checking the leak. LOL. No muss, no fuss.

Before anyone starts cautioning me about OC on my property while in plain view....

1) It's perfectly legal.
2) I know my neighbors and they're all ok.
3) I've got several LEOs who live in the immediate area and they have no issues with it either.

I've actually been in my van in a public parking lot doing paperwork in the daylight and had someone try to open my passenger side door. Of course it was locked. Which probably saved the would be car burglars life. My windows are kind of dark and I think he didn't even see me in the van. In the past 15 years I've had numerous things happen that could have gone wrong. I'm very street smart and was able to avoid the bad situation. A couple years ago an Austin police officer shot and killed a bad guy in an apartment complex. The neighborhood lined the streets and were almost rioting. I happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. As I passed through the crowd, they pounded on my van and tried to open my doors. All I could think about was Reginald Denny getting pulled out of his truck and getting hit in the head with a brick. Then kicked by the crowd. That was the last time I ever went to work without my pistol!

Not an issue for me.

I think I would warn them that their concealment was inadequate for that activity and that the next time could be someone less understanding than myself.

If it is possible to escape the area safely, do so quietly.
If you Cannot safely exit the building, seek shelter in a room where the doors can be locked or barricaded securely.
Do not open the door until you can be positive that it is a police officer coming to help you.

First of all, since I don't have my chl YET there's probably no way I would carry into a residence and have some homeowner freak out and call the cops. I wouldn't want to mess up my chances of getting my chl and having to wait five years. But the way I will go about it once my CHL comes in.. If I'm packing at work, I had better make darn sure it's covered up. If I can't do my job and keep it concealed.. Then I better leave it in the van.

Phew! I thought you were going to tell me that I have to blow a whistle, defecate, and tell him that I'm menstruating.......and I wasn't sure how I was going to pull that last one off.......without holding up the repair work......

For all who have a CHL and work in other people's homes doing things like plumbing - use a zippered pack instead of a conventional holster.

Doing so affords little chance of your gun being exposed or worse - falling out onto the floor...

I thought we were supposed to use scissors for self defense, I mean that is what DHS says right?
