Broken Extractor

I managed to break this extractor on my Glock 17 during an IDPA match on Sunday. I never knew there was a problem until I cleaned the gun last night

She kept on running. I guess this serves as a good reminder to inspect our weapons.
Edit to add the wise words of HighVelocity: "How many parts have to break at once on a Glock for it to stop working? The world may never know"

There's a reason we like Glocks. The factory will probably mail you a new extractor, no charge.
For a Springfield XD, forget it. The extractor is pressed into the slide, not removable. That's a $100 trip to the factory for replacement. (Same applies to anything else that breaks, Springfield doesn't sell parts, so a field repair kit isn't an option.)

But...
If its broken, yet still works...Why fix it???
Conveluted logic...I know...
Shut up Steve!
AV8R is right...I bet they send you a new one, no charge...
Do you want the number to Smyrna???

You're right.....come on down for some BBQ and we will swap. I know you would rather have the more experienced one!
I talked to the folks in Smyrna and sent them a picture. Nice folks, but I do not think they are going to send me an extractor. I just thought they might want to see the bubbles and what it caused. I am thinking about making Longtooth a necklace out of it
If the next extractor shoots as many rounds......I just can't complain!

Nah, LT would just use it to show how a Glock breaks. (don't matter that it had 10-20 thousand rounds thru her).

Yea, but LT would fail to mention that fact

That's amazing. Try it without the extractor altogether, it might still work.
AVBR, I have sent a couple of guns back to Springfield, they have yet to charge me and even paid the shipping overngiht both ways.

Hehe, I wonder if it has anything to do with the stoppages you had a couple weeks back.

I wish I could remember the webpage that did it, but I am almost positive that it will still work. I could be wrong, but that would be an interesting thing to see. I may try it next time at the range....
Although, without having my G17 with me, I can't remember if you actually need the extractor in there for the firing pin saftey to work...
I'm just surprised it even broke....but like

No, I have confirmed that I got a bad lot of T's ammo. I had the same problem with my other 17 and the 26.

Sadly, this is very true. I own two XD's and this is the one area where they come up short compared to Gro....er, I mean Glock.
I had to send one of my guns to Springfield to have an extractor replaced. Took 2 1/2 weeks and $50.00 of my hard earned cash for shipping. In all fairness, they did refund the shipping after about a 45 day wait. The problem is, I see that as a 45 day interest free loan.
Not a bad deal for Springfield, wouldn't you agree?
Still can't force myself to buy a... Groc...Glo...sorry, just can't make myself say that word twice in the same post!
