The rarest of all birds. A Californian with a concealed weapons permit AND the guts to use his gun to stop a robbery. Of course the perp was out on bail at the time, so he'll be back after he makes bail again (it is California after all), and this time he'll probably be armed. Hope the owner is a good shot.

A couple of observations.....
I don't think the same perp has robbed the guy all 15 times. From the story I read, you couldn't tell.
California law permits a person to keep a loaded firearm in their residence, which includes a hotel room, or a motor home etc., as well as a business owner to keep a loaded firearm at the business premises and use it, although you have to be careful. As I understand it, you can't shoot someone who is getting away, usually. If you are being threatened, yes, but it has to be self-defense, or you are in deep trouble.

The article stated that police fount items at the suspect's house that were taken in previous robberies. While it's true he may not have committed all 15, he has apparently "visited" before.
Officers searched Masterson’s home and allegedly turned up a number of items from Fowler’s business, says Fowler.
The article also stated that the business owner has a concealed weapon license.
With a concealed weapon permit, Fowler pulled out his gun.

Two observations.....
- If this man has a concealed handgun license in SACRAMENTO, the extremely democrat capital of a democrat state, then he is very well politically connected. However, he is from Oroville, and if I remember correctly, Oroville County is one of those California counties which has been much more libertarian about issuing permits, to the point of causing a backlash by democrats against the practice of issuing permits to residents of other counties.
- The news report keeps using the term "lying in wait" in its coverage, which implies a criminally bent evil intent. There are lots of terms that could have been substituted—trapped, ambushed, sting, etc.—but the news coverage used the term often attributed to rapists and murderers and other people who mean to do criminal harm to innocent victims............which is exactly the kind of reporting I would expect from Sacramento concerning Oroville.
But then.....this is California, which I predict will be instrumental in the eventual demise of the U.S. as a coherent national entity.
