Does anyone know if you had been on deferred probation for a felony possession charge and completed your probation can you still get a chl ? The person in question has been off probation for 3 years and the original charge was about 6 to 7 years ago.

I believe after ten years, so long as it is not a specified felony, otherwise never. Specified felonies being things like robbery, murder, etc.

There is deferred adjudication, and there is probation. They are not the same thing.
Successful completion of probation does NOT make you eligible, but successful completion of deferred adjudication DOES, after 10 years from the date of the conviction of a non-violent felony.

Strummer.. Crossfire is right about the ten years after sentencing. You may want to look at a Florida CHL which only requires a 3 year wait after sentencing. You do not have to be a Florida Resident.. only a U.S. citizen. The Florida CHL is good in texas. Look for Florida Department of Agriculture when you search it. Be aware that there is a bill in the state legislature to make it to where Texas residents can't use out of state CHL's. I doubt it will pass tho.
