"If we change the policies in this country every time something happens -- whether it's Oklahoma City, 9/11, this -- then we're never going to do anything," he told reporters. "We should think about where the best policies are for the United States and use those."
The above quote is from Patrick Leahy (story on Huffington post)
Let me get this straight and please tell me if I'm wrong. A bomb goes off in Boston set by immigrants and he see's no need in changing/improving immigration policies but we have a shooting and our firearm policies should be thrown out and stomped on.
Your thoughts?

This is the sort of thing that passes for "logic" with leftists.

This just shows you how completely hypocritical Dems are. Leahy would NEVER apply that logic to gun control, yet here it applies perfectly. That statement should be hung around the neck of every liberal every time they spout their garbage about gun control. And if there was one single reporter in this entire country with one single ounce of integrity, they would ask that question every time the crisis mongers demand immediate action for something they don't like.

BE, I understand and agree, but here's the problem with this tactic. Leahy said, "
We should think about where the best policies are for the United States and use those." He didn't reference the
Constitution, he referenced
policy. From HIS VIEWPOINT, the "best policy" for the United States regarding the 2nd Amendment is gun-control/confiscation, and we should use that policy. So Leahy and his fellow travelers see absolutely no inconsistency between his cautionary admonishments to use "best policy" in response to terrorism, and using "best policy" in response to "gun violence.".......as long as HIS SIDE gets to decide what constitutes "best policy." So nothing changes....
The only real use of this quote of Leahy's is to keep 2nd Amendment advocates focused and fired up, and perhaps to convince a very small number of fence-sitters......of whom there are decreasing numbers as the nation becomes ever more polarized over the issue. But it will be practically useless against anti-gunners because they will see no inconsistency between the two applications of that principle.

TAM, I agree. That was my first thought. No reference to the Constitution at all. All done by policy, which can be fluid, based on whoever is in charge.
