"The type of people who carry 9mm"

Another humorous addition to the caliber wars:

(warning: one mildly unfit-for-9-year-old ears comment - sound like the flower necklaces given to tourists in Hawaii)

Just like a P226, I figure if it is good enough for the SAS and SEALS, it's good enough for me.

It's only good enough for SAS and SEALs because after they unload 17 rounds of 9mm directly into the bad guy's heart and he is unaffected by such a wimpy round, they are capable of snapping bad guy's neck with their bare hands

:evil2:

:biggrinjester:

(writes the man carrying a 9mm right now)

Wasn't sure where this one was headed. Have a friend who always says a .380 just doesn't do enough damage! Funny when I ask if I can shoot him with it he always says no. My primary is a G19 but I have a Bersa thunder I carry as well. One thing I know is it beats throwing a rock...the ole arm isn't what it used to be!

The SEALS down the road always claim that "shot placement is everything."

An SAS soldier has to be able to put 5 rapid fire rounds in a playing card from 25 yards, consistently, while flopping around on the ground..... so I'm told. I might be able to do that, except I can't flop around on the ground these days. Well, I can flop around... it's getting down on the ground and back up that is real undignified. :eek6

I haven't been able to get any of the SEALS to say what their requirements are.

I'm gonna borrow a youtube comment... "I carry 9mm ammo because that's what my gun shoots."

I carry a 9 and a .45...does that make me bi-polar? :-)

If you put "Warhead on Forehead", caliber doesn't matter...

I stopped worrying too much about .357sig, .45GAP, +P+ ammo, and all the other newest coolest highest speed lowest drag ammo after watching this video. It's an anesthesiologist from Seattle who has spent a lot of time watching trauma surgeons at work on gun shot wound patients. The quality isn't great, but I think that the present does a great job.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feat ... ku8YI68-JA

After watching it, I decided that I would do the following:

#1. Carry guns that fire commonly available ammunition in a "standard" defensive caliber, and not waste mental energy debating with myself what is the "best" handgun round. I'll happily chin-wag with someone for an hour or two over the merits of various calibers...but I certainly won't try to tell someone that their 9mm isn't "enough" or that their 10mm +P+ is "too much".

#2. Carry guns that are in a caliber that I shoot well, and don't spend a lot of time getting back on target due to recoil. (So far 9mm and .45ACP are my preferred options)

#3. Buy premium quality JHP ammo...but not worry about specific flavors of bullet.

#4. Carry enough spare magazines that I don't feel that I am short on ammo.

#5. If the place that I'm going to makes me feel like I want to bring a long gun, then I change my travel plans.

I stumbled across this link to an article about a police officer that went from .45 to 9mm after being involved in a very nasty shooting incident. An interesting read...and something to think about for folks that love to hate the 9mm.
