This issue was resolved decades ago when George Romney, Mitt's father, rqn for president. He was born in Mexico to a mother of American citizenship.

Good. I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.

He won't have served as a Senator for a full term by then. It's his first try at elective office, unlike even You-Know Who who at least had been a state Senator before moving to the major leagues, and look how we lambasted him for inexperience!

For all Cruz's dazzling array of qualities, and they are prodigious, being President is not like being Senator, and a different skill set is required. It seems like mostly it is a matter of being around long enough to collect good quality dirt on the principal leadership of the opposition. I figure he is pretty good at telling clowns from cowboys, but at the DC level, it's a lot faster game, kind of like the difference between pitching for the Ft. Worth Cats and the Texas Rangers.

The Senator will make a good President but must agree with you he needs a little time.

It's never been resolved, because there's never been a case before the Supreme Court. I am one who believes that the President's parents must both have been American citizens when the President was born. Ted Cruz' mother was an American, but I don't know if his father was a citizen at the time of his birth. If he was not, then Cruz would not be eligible. Of course none of this means a thing in our thoroughly modern world where the Constitution is meaningless and politicians can do anything they want without the fear of consequences.

And btw, the first time this issue came up was with President Chester A. Arthur, who predates George Romney, who was never elected President, by more than a few days.

I agree. He needs to prove that he can not only stop things from being done but can also get things done.

I'm curious as to why you believe BOTH parents must have been American citizens for their child to be a natural born citizen. The Constitution is silent on the requirements, therefore it's been left up to Congress to define it.

RE: Ted Cruz's citizenship situation.

His mother was an American citizen. His father emigrated from Cuba to Austin, TX in 1957 to go to UT.

He was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada while his parents were working in the oil industry.

They returned to the US when Ted was 4. He graduated from high school in Katy, TX (Houston area).

His father became a US citizen in 2005 and is a pastor in North Dallas.

Is he eligible? I don't know. Since he had an American mother, doesn't that make him an American
citizen automatically, although born in Maple Syrup Land? Does anyone know?

he was born in canada and his folks were not active duty military or working in a military or American zone, much like the canal zone of panama or in a diplomatic position.

even if his folks were working in canada for an oil company and they retained their citizenship as legal workers in Canada, he was still born there so in my little brain he is a Canadian.
did he ever become a citizen of the usa? and at what age or was it just given as his parents where us citizens at the time

Ok, before anyone accuses me of throwing cold water on this, I preface my following comments with my absolute support of Ted Cruz in his visibility and actions so far in his first term as Senator from Texas...

First...He will not get enough national support from the establishment "elite" republican leadership in the party...

Second...That will translate into lackluster name recognition, much less enough support from the voting base...

Third...The democrats would love to see him run, and will actually support his attempt to do so...Therefore the other candidates running will be watered down enough to where the bid for any republican against a new cadre of democrat candidates will be weaker than the past two general election cycles...

The same will apply for just about ANY republican desiring to make a run on this...That goes for your Rubio, Rand Paul, and any other person being mentioned in the near future for the job at 1600 Pennsylvania...

So far, I have not heard of anyone else besides those two being smoozed by supporters this early in the game...
