Out of curiousity....

What type of venue would the Houston International Festival fall into? The website asks that you do not bring any weapons into the event (along with other no-no itmes such as video recorders and outside food) and would this be considered "verbal notification"? The reason that I ask is due to the fact that this event is held in open downtown streets and you must walk to and from the event in downtown Houston. I do not feel unsafe in Downtown Houston, but ANYTHING can happen ANYWHERE and I will usually carry anywhere I legally can.

Thoughts on the matter.........

The written notice does not apply to you unless it is in 30.06 language.
I don't see how they can prohibit you from carrying on a street.

The risk is low, but the risk is there...Thats all the excuse I need...

I've been to a couple of those events here in Houston over the years...Its a great event and a lot of fun...

You'll feel better having it with you...

Nah, it just sounds like some cheap political show the politicans put on. Anything the City of Houston does typically is.

Do we typically have big Fesitvals and celebrations during important state holidays like San Jacinto Day or Texas Independence Day or Alamo Day?

Sorry, I don't want to take this thread off track. Just thinking...er throwing up aloud. Shouldn't have said anything....I'm not here.

I agree that it IS a pretty sad effort to put Houston back on the political map and I DO agree that we celebrate for too few Texas related events and dates. None the less; it's still a little fun to attend. I kind of figured there would be no 30.06 posting but wanted to test the waters as to the event category. Thanx again for the quick responses.

Don't knock it until you try it. I have been going there for almost 15 years now. There is nothing political about it. Just a chance for people from different parts of the world to showcase themselves. If we had a society that was truly international then they would not be a need for it. But you still have people wallow in ignorance that have never left the City or County limits and it could be an eye opener for those folks and the young.

Nobody complains about St. Patrick's Day. How far are we from Ireland? What is the relation? Yet every year, GREEN!!!

I was there 2002. Be prepared as it s rowdy and noisy. Its fun though esp seeing lots of different people. Bring enough cash. Gate entrance was like $10 plus the drinks and food, but its worth itl

I nearly choked when I read that!

I'm a sucker for Gyros (pronounced yee-ros for the uninitiated). Any time I hear a whisper of a Greek Fest or Int'l fest, I try to check'em out. I swear, you can take nearly anything, put it in a tortilla or pita, and it's instantly tastey!
