Help Me Change His Mind

I recently had a discussion with another Texas CHL Instructor. He frequents this forum so I told him I would post this and get other Instructors (or non Instructors) to chime in on their views.
This particular Instructor teaches that the ONLY legal way to carry in Church is to have your Pastor write you a letter authorizing you to carry. He didn't want to hear about section (i) in the code requiring the posting of 30.06. He teaches a weekly course at a very large range.
Your views?

Well, people in heck want ice water too... but the law's language is clear. It doesn't matter what his feelings are.
If the church isn't posting 30.06, you are allowed to carry there.
Concealed is concealed. Each Sunday I've got both guns and extra ammo on me due to section (i). 29 rounds minimum.
And even a fish wouldn't get in trouble if he kept his mouth shut. (Don't discuss your gun habits with others).

Well he is obviously wrong.
When I have someone come up with yet another magical requirement because "otherwise it is illegal", I always ask them, "show me where it says that in the statute."

Don't you just love the mis-informed? I had to educate a fairly new instructor who is a retired cop. He didn't like it a whole lot....oh well. READ THE LAW

He is obviously pigheaded and stubborn. When someone refuses to acknowledge that the earth is round there simply isn't any hope of convincing them otherwise.

PC ยง46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE
HOLDER
(b) A license holder commits an of fense if the license holder
intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries a handgun under the
authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, regardless of
whether the handgun is concealed, on or about the license holder's
person:
(6) on the premises of a church, synagogue, or other established
place of religious worship.
(i) Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do not apply if the actor
was not given effective notice under Section 30.06.
I could copy and paste Section 30.06 too but I'll leave that for him to go read. It doesn't mention a letter from a pastor.
Tell him to read the law. If his mind can't be changed by that, it probably can't be changed...

He is actually hurting our cause by spreading this misinformation which is certain to spread farther; "My instructor told me . . ." and "My friend who is a CHI told me . . ."
The latter has been said to me many times lately by a friend who is new to CHL. His friend is a "CHI" and has the "Official Hat" which only CHIs are allowed to wear and which also grants him carry in places where ordinary CHLs can't, has also told him to get a FL (CHL) and carry in Texas under it because it is easier to get, less expensive, and good in more states than a TX CHL.
My opinion of my friend's friend is mostly not suitable for publication here, but I do think he should be stripped of his credentials.

Instructor is incorrect. If he is a member of this forum, it has been discussed many times on here. Churches must post 30.06 to be off limits unless person is given verbal notice.
Instructors really need to make sure they are up with most current laws. Not doing so, as Jim stated, is doing themselves and their students a disfavor.

Yesterday in class I had to deal w/ this too.
Also the other classic:
"Dont shoot a perfect score because they will say you could have shot him in the knee".

The best part of reducing CHL class hours is giving some instructors less time to confuse their students.

I like Jerry Miculek's idea on learning.
Big head quits learning.

Where shall I send the bill?
By all rights, you owe me a new lap top, or at least pay the service bill to remove the beer I just spit up on it after reading your post
