Value of a used Pre-Owned Sig Sauer P226

How much would a USED Pre-Owned Sig Sauer P226 9mm go for? I think they go for around $600 new refurbished from the factory now. How much would a used one be worth? I went by a gunstore the other day and found a used one. Seems to be in fine condition, with original red box, magazines, 6 additional magazines (two of them 17 rounds), a .22 conversion slide and .22 magazine.
$475 for the gun,
$10 for original mags (the mag springs are a little weak but still cycle fine but can be replaced)
$20 for 6 additional mags which are in great condition (two of them are 17 rounders)
$200 for .22 conversion kit with original box
and a free plastic fobus holster
The whole deal is for $815
Is this a good deal? Gunbroker seems to be a little limited and only has new pre-owned sigs so I can't get an idea what a used one costs. Magazines, even used ones, seem to be as high as $50 a peice these days.

That's a very good price. A plain P226 (new) with night sights is $1000. Extra barrels are $200. Mags are about $30 ea. Even used that setup should sell for $1000 or more. Used P226's go for about $550 to $600 these days without all the extras.

Wow! Really? We're talking about the Red Box not the Blue Box. It's a used Pre Owned not a used New Sig.

Sounds like a good deal. Just searched around, and the cheapest used one I found in TX was 650

For those not familiar with Sig case colors. A red case indicates a factory refurbished Sig intended for sale through dealer/distributor channels. A Blue or Black case is the most common color although there are many variations. A factory refurbished Sig that was done for a customer will be returned in the case it was sent with, if it was not sent in a case then one is usually provided (will be what ever color is available). Sig will not sell demo guns in any case other than red, even if the firearm was never fired it still goes to the shop to be checked out and put into a red case.

To my understanding from dealers and from Sigs own website, Pre-Owned guns in the red box are factory refurbished guns that were LEO guns (either carried or just sat in a police armory) and were returned to the factory, given fresh parts and testing and put back on the civilian market as Pre-Owned guns.
So they are essentially a brand new gun probably never fired except at the practice range, if even that (but given fresh parts at the factory). So why are they only half the price of a brand new one once they are put out on the civiliam market?

I agree, that's a good deal. BTW the 17 round mags are most likely Mec-Gar brand and are as good if not better than factory mags (if factory mags are Checkmate brand).

Almost completely the case. Non-LEO guns that get red boxes are demo guns (Like those used for media day @ SHOT show), Display guns (Guns used for display at industry shows like SHOT and NRAAM), Test & Evaluation (T&E) Guns, Quantity trade ins (LEO, Security, Ect), and so on. One gun writer claimed he saw a gun at SHOT or NRAAM a few years back then put in a T&E request and then recieved the gun that was at the show for T&E (He remembered the serial # as it had significance to him I believe). He said it arrived in a Red Box and that he honestly believed that he was the first person outside the testers to fire that gun.
You can have your used Sig factory refurbished, it will come back in the box you sent it in or what ever they have available if it was shipped w/o a case. I have had this done to a LEO trade in P226 I purchased from a dealer, it came back with it's original blue "Law Enforcement" case. That gun now sports NILL Walnut grips and is my favorite non-1911 handgun.

well. Went to the gunshow today. Started off asking $915 for the whole bundle. Every dealer I talked to said I was making a fair to great offer for everything. The few individuals I talked to liked the deal but it wasn't what they were looking for. The first dealer I talked to I think was looking for desperate people. She said I was making a fair offer for $915. But the best she could offer was $550 for the whole thing. I respectfully passed.
I came down to $850 with a minimum of $800. One guy countered with $650. After a long pause of thought I countered with $750. He couldn't do it because he wanted to sell it fast. (My girlfriend noticed the guy had been following us around the show talking to people).
The final people I talked to I said $850. They both said that was a great offer for the whole package especially for somebody starting out as a gun enthusiast, but they had so many guns and other obligations that they couldn't. I ask them what they would be willing to pay. they shook their heads and said they already had other irons in the fire and wouldn't want to insult me but agreed it was a great offer (and had a lot of good things to say about Sig guns).
My impression from the whole show was gun dealers are looking for people who are looking for cash quickly and need money right now. Individuals are either looking for a particular gun and if yours isn't one of them, they pass. Understandable. But I'm not desperate

The price you suggested would be excellent if you want to purchase the pistol, or are selling it to someone who want to own it.
A dealer will have a different agenda. They will want to purchase the pistol at a low enough price that they can turn around and sell it quickly - which is why they offered you substantially less. If they paid you $800 for the package, they'd probably end up pricing it at over $1000. After all, most dealers want to make a living - very few of them are dealing in firearms as a form of recreation.

I understand they want/need to make money. And I wasn't expecting to get 100% of what was asking. But offering 50% as their "best offer"??? They need to get real.

That isn't a new phenomenon. Many years ago, I bought a used gun from a dealer. I put 200-300 rounds through it and decided it wasn't what I really wanted. Three or four months later I went back to the dealer and asked what they would credit me as a trade-in toward a specific new gun in their display case. They offered half what I paid them for the used gun a few month prior. No deal. Instead, I went to a gun show and bought the desired new gun for a few dollars less than the "after trade in" price at the LGS. Now it's more than ten years later and I still haven't been back to the LGS.
Good luck with your sale.

Keep in mind that the greedy capitalist pig has to buy below "market" in order to have a spread to pay overhead, something left over, who risks his capital in hope of selling his lines for a fair price enough to cover expenses, etc.
A used gun will sell for what? Something below what a new one sells for, enough to entice the buyer to not just buy a new gun. What does it take to get you to buy a slightly used gun instead of a brand new one? 80% of new price? 75%, 60%? The dealer has to have a margin so offering 50%, depending on the market, is about what it might take, allowing for better or worse luck etc. Why should he lose money to get your business?
"We lose money on every deal, but we make it up in volume!" sounds like Red McCombs or somebody. He's done OK, I guess.
