I was originally carrying a smith and wesson AA "tactical" light I got for over under 50.00 and it only lasted about 6 months before the tall cap starting shorting out. I seem to have that problem with every flashlight between 3-6 months. The tailcap either needs twisted back and forth or beaten to give light. I wanted something in single AA with high output at 100 lumen or above, but couldnt pass up the Inova. I messed with one at Academy and thought it was cool but not for the 56.00 they wanted for it. I am not to found of it not having a clip (even though mine always break) plus it is a AA. Anyways haven't posted much lately and this is about as interesting as my life has gotten in the last 5 hours browsing the internet on a boring day off.

Congrats on your new light. My problem with EDC lights are pocket-clip failures. As in, the clip failed to keep the light in my pocket. I know that statement is contentious. The Fenix PD series clip isn't attached via screws so that somehow was lost. I went clip-less for a while and ultimately lost the light. I have an Eag. Tac. D25C at the moment now. I'm partial to the compact size of single 123's but I don't mind a AA or two AA if it's worth the size and weight. Flashlights are so under-rated.

flashlights are indeed over rated. Reason I stick with AA is availability and cost. I have noticed more of a selection when moving away from them though.

It doesn't use an AA battery, though, but you can also get the kit with rechargeable batteries, battery charger and holster for it.

I'm unsure if you miss-typed or not, I said that flash lights are "under-rated". If you order your CR123A's online the price can easily be lower than that of AA you snag at Walgreens or Walmart. Nothing wrong with AA or even AAA battery powered lights.

I have a 4Sevens Quark x 123 light, and it is an excellent product and has served as my EDC light for the past couple of years. But, my last weapon light purchase was a WL1-AA from L3 (formerly "Insight") http://www.insighttechnology.com/l3-products/wl1-aa-led. It uses AA batteries. My EOTech uses AA batteries. I have a solar powered battery charger in my go-bag, with a supply of rechargeable batteries to go with it. It's not that I prefer AA batteries over CR123 batteries so much as it is harder to find a portable solar-charged solution that will charge multiple battery types including CR123s.....at least at a price that seems reasonable to me.

So my next EDC light purchase will likely use AA batteries as I go through the transition to AA powered devices wherever possible.

All three of my scopes which have illuminated reticles use those little flat 2032 "watch" batteries. I don't suppose there's anything I can do about that. When the zombie apocalypse happens, I'll eventually have to learn to do without illuminated reticles. Oh well......

I have always heard of four sevens being a reputable brand so its good to know someone on here backs that up. The Inova is definitely no frills. No striking bezel, no clip, no nothing.

This maybe would be something good to keep at the house for myself I like that. Is it really 1k lumens though?

I have no idea how to measure the lumens on the light, so I don't know if it puts out 1,000 lumens, but it's pretty dang bright. It came with a warning about injury to the eye if you're not careful, too. It's definitely the brightest flashlight by far in my mish-mash collection of mediocre cheapo lights I have around the house. One thing I noticed is that it warms up quite a bit when the 1,000 lumens is one for a short while. I try to use the lower settings, which are also relatively bright, to keep it from getting hot, not that it gets too hot to the touch, though. My main complaint about it is the two other settings I don't really care about - the SOS and the strobe light settings. I sometimes have to cycle through the other 4 settings to get to the one I want. But other than that, I really like it, and for the price, I might get a couple more.

This is why I wish more places had flashlights to try out because. I have seen some that do SOS and strobe only after fast clicks of certain order and I have seen some that its just apart of the cycle. I personally don't even want a low setting. I prefer just that bright beam momentary on.

Complete redneck side note. Although quite rude, shining 110 lumens at your opponent making his turn at horse shoes was quite funny a month ago.

I think you can order a flashlight from Survival Laser with just the high (1000 lumens) function. When I ordered mine, I thought it would be neat to have different functions and different powered beams of light, but now I only prefer the different powered beams of light. Might want to e-mail him and ask. He was fairly quick and responsive when I e-mailed him.

Yeah I may just do that I just spent 248.00 dollars at cabelas and thats not including what I spent IN STORE yesterday. Midway USA never had the shooting sled/vise in stock I wanted and even if they did it looked better served as a shooting sled then vise to clean anyways. So i ordered the Tipton Best Gun Vise. First time ordering online from cabelas. I think I am spoiled with Midways crazy fast shipping.
