A 15-year-old boy was arrested at his home and placed in the local juvenile detention facility after reportedly brandishing a pencil, putting holes in walls and resisting arrest.

Damaging property regardless of the tool used is still a crime. Threatening someone with a sharp object regardless of the intended purpose of that object is still a crime. I don't see the issue here from article snippet above.

A Pencil is the equivalent of a 'shank' and can be a deadly weapon in the wrong hands.

I am now waiting for the Brady-bunch to chase them down...

This kid should be in trouble for doing what he allegedly did. As far as I am concerned he could have escalated to poking holes in people.

The article struck me as quite the contrast to brandishing a firearm which was the point of my tongue-in-cheek comment which apparently was missed. Obviously the boy was out of control and potentially dangerous.

Frying pan
Hammer
Screwdriver
Ball point pen
Clothes rod
Hardwood dowel
Tomato stake
[/humor]

I'll try to be more obvious with my satire next time...

Hey, obviously it was non-firearm because it was only local news. It it had been a firearm, he'd have made the national news. :smash:

Once again, proof that pretty much anything can be used as a weapon if one so desires. Some weapons of opportunity are better than others, but they are all around nonetheless....
