AMC Theaters Now Have Bars Inside

The local AMC theater which I occasionally went to now has a bar located just inside the front door, so even though they have no valid 30.06 posted, I have to treat the whole complex as a bar especially since they allow guests to take alcohol to their seats. Has anyone else noticed similar situations, or do you have a comment?

If no 30.06 or 51% sign then I would carry. I highly doubt they make enough profit off alcohol to be considered a bar. I think of it as a restaurant that has a bar, still legal to carry.

Do they derive more than 51% of their sales from alcohol? Since the answer is probably "no," you can still carry.

edit: looks like nightmare69 beat me to it.

Alamo Drafthouse, Flix Brewhouse, and Galaxy (Moviehouse and Eatery) have bars. The Galaxy one is particularly excellent.

However, I haven't seen a 51 sign at any of them. IIRC but alcohol sales have to make up 50% or more of revenues correct? I doubt a theater is going to meet that standard, and even then I believe they have to post no?

Any business that sells alcohol must post one of two signs. If for on premise consumption and they make more than 51% of their revenue from alcohol sales, they must post a sign with a big red 51% in the middle. If they make less than 51% from alcohol sales, or the sales are for off-premise consumption, then they post the blue 'Unlicensed possesion...' sign.

At the prices for tickets and other concessions I seriously doubt a movie theater is going to make more than 51% of their revenue from the sale of alcohol for on premise consumption.

Good point. I have seen the usual "unlicensed possession" sign on at least one of them.

I don't understand what you mean by "treat the whole complex as a bar". Do you treat Chili's any different than Cracker Barrel just because Chili's sells alcohol?

Most AMC's are posted. At least all the ones I have been to.

The confusing portion for me is that this appears to be a separate business doing business within the theater and I could not locate the 51% sign. The theater doors have 30.06 posted on what appears to be a 7 " x 9" sign with 1/2" high letters.

It all caught me by surprise since I had not been to this theater for over a year. I won't be going back there anytime soon, but was curious since it seemed similar to a bar inside a bowling alley.

Thank you Keith B. It will be a long time before I go back to an AMC just on the principle of them once again putting tiny 30.06 on some of their doors. I usually drive over to the Cinemark in Rosenberg. They have no signs to keep lawful citizens from carrying.

I enjoy the folks over there too.

Most AMC's are incorrectly posted. The signs I've seen at AMC theaters have all been on an 8.5"x11" piece of paper.
