I have a question for the Smith & Wesson experts. I have acquired a S&W Model 617 6" .22lr stainless revolver. This revolver is NIB. The serial number is SBNV1471. The product code is 100566. It has a special order code of 2356.

The strange thing about this revolver is that it has a six shot cylinder. Everything I look at on S&W's website says the 617 has a 10 shot cylinder. Was it possible to order this revolver with a six shot cylinder instead of 10 shot?

The 10 shot cylinder was not introduced until 1996 in the 617. Your product code shows a 6" bbl according to "The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson," considered to be the S&W bible. The 100566 was produced between 1990-94.
