Well, it may have fianlly happened.
We visited a Taco Cabana yesterday to grab a bite to eat while my wife's vehicles was getting some new shoes. Upon us walking up to the restraunt that has had a previous 30.06...it has recently been replaced with an "Unlawful Carry" sign. This really excited me and forced me to stop by the one by our home. Sure enough, SAME THING....new sign. I have not had a chance to visit the corperate site or email them, but I know that these signs have been changed within the last 4 days. Both of these locations are around the League City area. I don't know if any of you guys want to go check it out, but PLEASE post locations that have changed their signage. Maybe they finally realized we're the good guys!

You can bet I will check it out. I may even try their resturant. It is amazing what exercising our rights of speech can do.

I can't post a copy until Tuesday, but I have seen a letter from their corporate counsel stating they ban all firearms and that they believe they are in compliance with "all posting requirements." The letter also states they placed a smaller "courtesy" sign for patrons to see before they enter.
Those are his words, not mine.

Are T.C.s operated as a franchise or a corperation? If they are operated as a franchise, that may explain why some post "Unlawful Carry" signs and some post 30.06 signage. They may be independantly owned and operated thus the inconsistencies. I'm not sure, but something I may research next week.

And yes, their flautas are back and I bought (and madly consumed) a dozen yesterday!!

TC's are corporate, they are a customer of the company I work for so thats something I know. There may be some franchise locations around, but the majority are corporate and all of them may be.

OKAY! I just went to my neighborhood Taco Cabana @ Wm Cannon and I-35 in Austin to see about the sign situation. It still has the non compliant (way undersized) attempt at a 30.06 posting. There is one on an entrance door and another inside where one stands in line to wait to order.

Interestingly, the one inside is posted right next to an "Unlicensed possession.." sign for TABC. There is no full size compliant 36.06 sign in the place.

Charles, there is a similar thread over on Glocktalk.com. One of the posters there posted the letter he recieved from TC's general counsel. I do not know if this is similar to the one you spoke of but here it is:

Dear Mr (name removed)

I am Vice President, Associate General Counsel for Taco Cabana and I am writing because I received your April 4, 2007, email correspondence to the company regarding our Concealed Handguns policy.

First let me tell you I appreciate your patronage and that you took the time to let us know how you feel about our policy.

I understand that anyone licensed to carry a concealed weapon has undergone a significant amount of screening and training. I also understand that each of us has concerns about our safety and wellbeing. Taco Cabana has made a decision based on a number of competing factors, to prohibit all weapons from our premises. I believe it is the best we can do to keep our customers and employees safe.

I have confirmed that our interior sign is in full compliance with the posting regulations. In addition, we have placed a smaller courtesy sign on the front door so that patrons are informed of the policy prior to entering the store.

Thank you again for taking the time to let us know how you feel. I know we may not be in agreement on the best method to ensure safety. However we respect your opinion as our customer and hope that you will continue as our customer and respect our decision.

Sincerely,
Shanna M. Garcia
Vice President, Associate General Counsel

I would have thought that if someone like me could read the law and determine what the requirements of a 30.06 posting are, it would seem reasonable to assume that someone with the title of "Vice President, Associate General Councel" certainly could have done so, as well.

Oh Well. I certainly hope that Taco Cabana is getting better advice for their money in other areas than they are in this case.

...to prohibit all weapons from our premises...
Someone needs to remind him that he's not correct. Off-duty LE officers can still carry in their restaurants. Why is he OK with that but not with the "highly trained" CHL holders?

Anyway, if the signs don't comply it really doesn't matter much does it. Other than his attitude toward law-abiding citizens.

I would believe that Taco Cabana is more concerned about slip and falls, and e. coli outbreaks than weapons on their premisis...

But like the "general counsel" implied...We post in multiple locations...

Well Kemosabe...You can post all you want...If its not correctly sized and worded right, you can wallpaper the place with that stuff and it still wouldn't matter to me...And a few others...

Based on my experience handling a report of a mouse head in the Carne Guisada, I would say TC is not too worried about those kinds of things.

I guess this is where I would disagree with you and many others. The argument was made that an incorrect posting was done deliberately to allow CHL's and calm anti's. Here TC has expressly stated that their goal is to stop you. I know it is not legally sufficient, but why would you want to eat there now? I do my best to avoid places that don't like me and take opposite sides on issues I am concerned with.

:iagree:

I've expressed this sentiment in another thread, for which I am getting a whole load of stuff.

Even though the sign may be non-compliant, I take it at face value that it expresses the property owner's wishes. At a minimum, it makes me feel unwelcome, and I tend to take my business somewhere else.

If I have another reason for being there, say to meet a friend or family member, then I ignore the non-compliant sign as having no force of law (while still feeling unwelcome).

There's plenty of places to get good Mexican food in Austin. I can do without TC, and they are apparently getting along fine without me.

Sort of a "win-win" situation.

I love it!!!
They are 100% ignorant to the fact that whether they "prohibit all weapons from our premises" or not, the next criminal to stumble in certainly won't care.

As long as their signs stay non-compliant, I will continue to laugh at everyone of them I see and waltz right in there and enjoy my nachos.

Ms./Mrs. Shanna M. Garcia "Vice President, Associate General Counsel", you and Master Yoda can stuff it.
