Apparently this happened on Wednesday. Did anyone else hear about this? A liberal friend of mine e-mailed it to me. Were the Troopers correct that they could deny them access to the capitol with their rifles?

Well, I'm sure you can't go _into_ the capitol with long arms.

I'm still looking, but not finding anything yet that would prohibit them from carrying their rifles in the capitol.

When a DPS trooper standing in the doorway saying no you can bet that you are not going in that day.

There is that, but I'm wondering if there a legal basis for the prohibition.

Aye, it's not in the codification of laws, but in the state's Administrative Code: http://info.sos.state.tx.us/pls/pub/rea ... h=3&rl=146

*Edit - Government Code section which authorizes a criminal penalty for the above law:*
Sec. 411.065. OFFENSES. (a) A person commits an offense if the person violates a rule of the department adopted under Section 411.062 or a rule of the State Preservation Board adopted under Section 411.063.
(b) An offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor.
Carrying a handgun under a CHL is kosher, but just about anything else weaponish isn't.

That was my point. It's a C_H_L (emphasis on the H part  )

That's cool. I had no idea where to look. I was just doing google searches and trying to put in the right combination of words to try and get some hits that looked promising. Thanks Denwego.

Even without the prohibition being in the admin code, wouldn't a trooper assigned to the Capitol giving notice serve as notice for 30.05? Edit: for a long gun.

...which at one point prompted troopers stationed at the capitol to ask the protesters to consider removing the magazines from their rifles. They declined, noting that they were within their rights to have live rounds in their weapons.
This got me wondering what condition they were carrying their long guns in. I believe the law permits us to carry with one in the pipe but for protest, I definitely would have at least carried in condition 3 because I wouldn't want to be the dummy with an ND.
