Yesterday was the first time my grandson ever shot a gun and he did great. I gave him a safety lesson first, explained grip, recoil, stance and trigger pull before we even walked out the door. I have attached one of his targets. He shot my Beretta 9mm and my Springfield Xdm .45 5.25" Comp pistol. Not all the holes are his in the target, Grandpa had to demo shooting before he would try it. He shot the 9 first then the 45. I was suprised he liked the .45 better and shot much better with it. He is 14. He shoots a good game of pool to.

Ahh...that is part of the fun of shooting. Sharing it with someone else and seeing them enjoy it. I'm glad to hear you gave the ever important safety briefing. It's fun to see kids and grandkids growing up learning how to safely shoot and enjoy firearms.

I know what you mean.. I tried to get him to shoot when he was 9 years old and just a .22 but would not pull the trigger. I was very happy he shot this time.
I preached safety above all else and he was perfect ie.. didnt turn around with the gun he kept it pointed down range at all times and when the slide locked back he laid it down pointing down range. Just a great time for both of us.

Yep - very special thing. I felt same way when my 12yo granddaughter asked me to teach her to shoot shotgun, rifle, and pistol. I was honored and humbled.

One of my grandpa's gave me my first firearm (.22 rifle) and the other let me shoot it on his ranch land.
Wonderful way to first experience firearms.
Well done

Congratulations! There is nothing more fun than introducing shooting to someone other than introducing your on grandchild.
I have bought my grandson a .22 pistol. Each time he comes over he has to give me each safety rule in order for the "combination" on the safe to even work.
We have handled the pistol quiet a bit. August 1 he is coming to Pa's house and we are finally going to the range.

Please lets us know how everything goes.. It was a great day for me. My own son never wanted to do anything with me so this was extra special for me.

Good for you and them.
Mine have been shooting since they were both in the single digits age wise.
Now, my seventeen year old is pumped up about shooting my new AR.
She's an old hand at shooting a wide variety of hand guns.
Good too.
