So i finally bought the Sig Saur 716 I have been waiting for reasonable pricing on.

Now I need a scope and have no clue what to get. Obviously this is more of a short range gun but it is in 308/762 and can do longer range. I have a remington 700 with a leapould 4-14 scope. I was either thinking about a holographic sight or buying a better scope for my remington and putting the 4-14 on my AR. any ideas?

What will you be using the rifle for primarily?

If you are planning on using it for hunting or target shooting at long distances, the 4-14x scope you have would probably be good. I used to run a entry level Bushnell 3-9x on my AR when I was shooting regularly at 600m range in NM and it worked well and held zero.

If you are planning on using it for competition or defense etc... I would consider a 1-4x. Burris, Bushnell, Nikon, Vortex and many others make good affordable 1-4x scopes.

The big thing to me is that you want a scope with a relatively long eye relief so the back of the scope doesn't hang over the charge handle. It is a pain to charge the rifle while trying to squeeze your fingers under the scope.

Personally I just use a non-magnified red-dot (Lucid HD7) and backup irons on my AR.

that is my problem- i bought it mainly for defence, but i would a want to shoot it at 100 yards at the range.

I think for defence i would get a holographic sight but thats not going to work well for 100 yards if i decide to do that.

A 1-4x would work great at 100 yds if you want variable magnification. And honestly, unless you are hunting or competing, you can get pretty decent hits at 100 yds without magnification.

i dont plan to hunt anytime soon, maybe crazies.

Accually i was thinking about just using the iron sights and see what happens.

I was looking at the eotechs or leapould 1-4. I dont really see the big difference in the eotechs tho.

I finally got my aac breakout. I cant believe their wasnt one to be bought at the gun show.pretty lame when these tables claim to be "tactical" and they dont even carry many flash hiders.

I have a Millet DMS-1 scope on my AK 308 rifle and have loved it. However now that I have an AR I am thinking of my 308 as more of a long range rifle and my AR as the short range weapon.

I have been considering selling my DMS-1 if you are interested. It is a 1-4X illuminated Circle Dot scope.

And these are just in the medium range. Avoid the really really cheap scopes. If it's too good to be true........it's not true. They are cheap for a reason. I can't say enough about the SWFA branded scopes as a value proposition. They underprice them when compared to other scopes in that quality bracket. But I do own a Leupold VX-R Scout Scope on one of my rifles, and I REALLY like it. I keep trying to think of a reason to buy the 3-9X version, but I guess I've got to get another rifle first.

I went to bass pro and they actually had a sig 716 so they guy mounted a few of the eo techs for me.

Those big scopes are for long range stuff right?

im thinking at this point to just shoot it with the iron sights until I decide.

There's nothing like knowing you can be proficient with your rifle in case your optics fail. I think going with irons for awhile is a good idea.

Get whatever good glass that will fit your purpose. I'd go with something stronger than a 1x but still adjustable and then mount a DR at the 45.

I doubt he can accomplish that with "good glass" for less than $600. It sounds like he is fairly new to shooting, my assumption, and as such there is nothing wrong with learning to shoot irons. Besides, I'm not aware of too many shooting ranges, at least in the DFW area, that are long enough to make irons impractical.
