Do long guns have to be concealed in your vehicle?

The reason I ask is that when I go to the range, I always cover them with a towel. I do not have any gun cases.

To the very best of my knowledge, long guns do NOT have to be concealed. However, due to the potential for theft, its a good idea to keep them cased or covered.

Some ranges may have signs saying that all guns must be cased.
When I didn't have cases for my long guns, I'd go in and ask before carrying them in. Sometimes they'd tell me to just bring 'em on in. Other times they'd loan me cases to put them in to carry into the place.

No, they don't have to be concealed in your vehicle in Texas, or walking down the street for that matter. Though if you're walking down the street with a rifle or shotgun, the police will probably take an interest in what you're doing.
It's still perfectly legal to carry them in the gun racks in the back windows of pickups that were common years ago. I think this practice stopped mostly due to people being worried about their guns being stolen.

Nope, not in Texas. They can even be loaded with a round in the chamber as Texas laws don't distinguish between loaded or not.

Yep, remember the days when you would see rifles in the back window of trucks? You could still do it but I am pretty sure they would get stolen.

Gun cases are cheap. Why not just get one?

It was normal.

Yep I had one in my back window till I went to college then I moved it to behind the seat on my pickup and locked in with a chain and padlock . Now I am working on a SCV long gun but I have not found one at my price point.

When I first came here in 1969 that was the way it was.
