Looking to get little help on identifying this double action Colt revolver -- it is double action - serial number 26135 -- on the butt of gun it say US MC No1 135 -- which leads to be think 1905 marine corps but serial doesnt match those -- serial seems to match 1896 army / navy models -- honestly i dont have much of a clue on these older guns or colt revolvers -- a friend of mine is asking me to find out what i can it was his dads gun which he had for 40 something yrs he knows of -- can provide more pics if needed

You might check with Colt and see if they have any history on it...

In the first photo, that looks like something stamped on the left side of the barrel. Can you read it? Have you tried to see if any common cartridges fit the cylinder?

says Colt D A 45 on left side of barrel --- on top of barrel says Colt's PT FA MFG Co Hartsford CT USA -- second line says PAT'D Aug 5th 1884 June 5th 1900 July 4th 1905

has 45 long colts in it right now -- it works and shoot them

Could be a 1909. The screw above the left grip and the roll mark inboard are consistent with the 1909. Do you have the knob that went on the ejector rod? 1909 knobs have 3 segments. The grip should be checkered, but lots of folks sand checkering off. Are there any inspectors marks, usually an initial enclosed in a circle, on the pistol?

no dont have the knob it is missing -- i asked my buddy and he said he does remember his dad doing something to the grips long time ago (either replacing them or maybe sanding) -- as for inspector marks i do see a triangle on left side right above the front trigger guard -- looks like VP or /P inside the triangle -- i cant really tell though even looking through a mag glass my eyes arent the best

I think it's a 1909, the butt #1135 fits with the 26XXX serial number. Here's some info on serial numbers:

Production in Nov 1909. Caution, because these are rare pistolas they have some pretty good value for collectors and there have been civilian models and 1917s converted to mimic the Corps markings.

thanks for the help and info -- he is actually looking at selling it reason why he was wanting me to find more info on it

guess it is VP inside the triangle -- too bad it isnt that clean seeing what that one sold for also not sure on the civilian usmc part either
