I have a friend that needs to move an 800 lb safe, and it will be moved over wood flooring and travertine tile, so care is required. Does anyone have a recommendation of someone they have used that did a good job?

Thanks.

Scuba,

When I bought my safe from Cabelas these were the recommended movers/installers that I used:

They did a *very* good job, professional install, etc. They laid down a ramp to get over the threshold of the front door, laid down sections of protective flooring (cannot recall material) to make a path to the room - it protected my tile/flooring and it made it much easier for them to roll the 4-wheel dolly with the safe on it. There is a 90° corner when you open the door to where the safe is, their dolly made short work (only inches, or less, to spare). They were nice folks too. They started out locksmithing then the safe moving/installing business started booming and now they have a division that does this full-time.

We are in the Houston area. We purchased a Champion Gun Safe from these folks and we have had them to move our safe for us a couple of times. They use hydraulic dollies and have men come to move it that are used to dealing with the weights of these things. I imagine ours weighs at least 800 lbs. They are great guys and professional and the cost was very reasonable.

This ought to be a sticky.

I will soon need a safe mover to transport my safe from Kemah area to La Grange.

I attended a carbine class recently and one of the students installs, fixes, and moves safes (gun, jewelry, etc). He does all the safe installs for the local auto parts stores and services commercial and residential. Very nice fellow and seems like he has a lot of experience with gun safes. I was peppering him with all sorts of safe security questions and he answered them very knowledgeably and with patience.

His name is Clayton Goodman and his business is:

For those of you looking around the Houston area (anygun), I happen to know the owner of Bay Area movers. They have quite a bit of experience moving gun safes, they are contracted through a local store to move safes for customers, and the owner is an active IDPA and USPSA shooter. If you check them out on BBB, they have an outstanding record. I take referrals very seriously and would not refer them if I didn't have utmost confidence in them. See contact info below.

I had a good reference on this guy in the DFW area. After talking to him, I kept his number to move mine if needed. If anyone has used him and was unhappy, please post, but he was happy to describe all the precautions he takes to protect flooring, etc.

Just bought a gun and had it delivered and bolted down. Very happy with them and their prices. They also offer relocation:

I called these folks to move my 1,090 lb American Security safe from League City to La Grange. They quoted me $1,400.00 and said they needed at least 4 men to do so. Not a safe moving firm.

I went with Armordillo Security. Clayton will handle the move for $600.

I will post feedback once the move is complete.
