Why is the .40 Ammo Flat Nosed?

I was just wondering why the .40 ammo isnt round nose like 9mm & .45. My .40 Critical Duty ammo is almost round nosed.
I have never had any problems with my .40 but am just curious????
I love my .40 Glock 22 & love shooting it. it shoots well. I think 9mm, .40. & .45ACP are all good definsive calibers.
A lot of people dont think very much of the .40. Why? Thanks

Good question. I've heard it was a design "accommodation" to compensate for a too long casing. The one box of .380 range ammo I bought was flat-nosed, as well.

Read the "Why nine?" article someone posted on here, it will explain quite a bit I think. IIRC, it has to do with the length as Redneck_Buddha mentioned. It is an adaptation of the 10mm, made to be more compact.
Here is the link to that thread:

68Charger your right I have never really seen a 357sig cartrage. I just Googled it.
On a side note I never had a .40 jam during feeding.

.40S&W is an okay round. Not significantly better or worse than the 9mm or .45ACP. The recoil is a bit more snappy and not as easy to manage follow up shots, IMHO.
