I have found a site that is selling the jig and lower for a short period of time for 90.00. Which would leave me to buy the tools to complete. I thought about going down this road. However , all the other places that I see that continuously sell 80% percent lowers are 120.00 or more. Aside from owning a gun without a serial number is there a point to jump on this "deal" considering the normal price of 80% percent lower? Now that things have died down I have noticed a lot of things back to normal and full complete lowers are about 100.00 maybe more.

IMO, the sole advantage to an 80% lower is zero government paper trail.

Buying a lower in a private sale (in Texas and other free states) also has zero government paper trail.

Personally, I'd rather buy a "name brand" lower from a private individual than mess with machining the last 20% myself.

Other people's mileage may vary.

I am leaning towards agreeing with you, if all the other manufacturers had prices like this sale it would be worth it. However as I stated some of the companies making 80% lowers are asking more then completed ones. So it doesn't sound like it is anything I am over looking.

I think Rockethub.com is the sight, but you can find places selling 4 for $150 or so, then buy a jig.

Basically, I am with Jumping Frog - a lower from an individual is not hard to find, has a resale value (you cannot sell or give away a 80% build) if ever needed, no increase of cost in general, and accomplishes the same goal.

thanks for all the replies. From what I am seeing on some of complete lowers out there I could go with say a Del-ton and still come out pretty good. It is easy for people to say "save for this or that" Typically for my wife and I that is rarely how it works at least until she graduates. I usually use money for the house or example the fair coming up. So If I just dump 40.00 from this check and that eventually I will have one. My dad sort of suggested this route as a way to also learn how to build one from the ground up. While keeping the other money going into savings and my 401k separate. I have an endless amount of overtime available to my at work. However, seems like when I get a lot of "extra cash" something happens. Example being having to shell out 4k for my wife's nursing school OUT OF POCKET and that is just the current balance. I know if I went and spent 900.00 on an AR something would just come up and I would feel obligated to sell it. Piecing one together leaves me with somewhat of an AR and no ability to sell it :).

I had full intentions of getting a complete one with my tax return. I like the "build from the ground up" idea. That thought process helped out a lot when I was more of an active musician. Although firearms have proved to be a much more expensive hobby.

Thanks for the replies. I will try and update with my progress. As of now I am reading up on polymer lowers. Seems as though they have come a long way and at a good cost.

Maybe. You'd get the satisfaction of having built more of it yourself, which may or may not be worth something to you. Also, compared to an equivalent AR-15 lower, AR-10/LR308 lowers cost a lot more than just the increase in material costs would indicate, so an 80% lower might be cheaper if you want one in .308/7.62x51mm or one of those other bigger cartridges.

I agree with most others.

Quick and easy is to just buy from a private seller.

However if you like pojects and think it would be fun to finish an 80% lower and build your own gun then do it.

I have ordered 2 80% AR lowers and 2 80% 1911 lowers.
