Restaurant Customers, Employees Assaulted During Robbery

HOUSTON -- Masked men assaulted and robbed customers and employees of a southwest Houston restaurant before they escaped in a stolen car, officials told KPRC Local 2.

Houston police said a group of men approached Quenton Charlot in the parking lot of Ruchi's on Chimney Rock Road near Glenmont Drive at about 3 a.m. Tuesday.

One of the men told Charlot, an off-duty Harris County detention officer, to give him everything he had, including his car.

"As soon as he pointed the gun at me I guess he wanted to see if I was going to stay or not," Charlot said. "I took off and he just turned the gun and pumped it and fired a shot. Once I got over there, I just kind of felt over myself to see if I was hit or not."

Charlot was not injured in the shooting.

Investigators said the six gunmen went inside the restaurant and hit a cook and a waitress before assaulting the customers and demanding their possessions.

The gunmen grabbed the surveillance video before escaping in Charlot's car, detectives said.

Police are looking for a black Ford Focus hatchback with Texas license plate No. 190 TRM. The car has tinted windows and a sticker that reads "Lantern Village."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

I'd be hard-pressed to try to take on six guys, even if only half were armed. Since they hadn't shot anybody, I think I would have just let them be, and been a good witness.
However, if they had started shooting innocents, I don't think my steel would have stayed concealed. I mean, I could be next, right?

What kind of dork does a robbery without one in the chamber?

I don't think I'd break out the smokewagon with 6 armed BG's in the room unless they were shooting people. I shoot IDPA, but I'm not that good.

In my opinion, people that do this type of thing are short in the smarts department anyway....

the dork watched too many tv shows and movies where the gun had to be racked to in order function.

A dork that thinks they can live long and prosper robbing occupied restaurants in Texas...

As for the whole gang of six...

Thats why you get your wives, or significant other, to get their CHL's so they can at least get one for you... ;-)

A tactical thought for those who are concerned about penetration and hitting innocents...

Drop to a knee and target slightly upwards...Odds are that many others in your area will be dropping to the floor when you start singing...

BTW, anyone want to meetup at Ruchi's this weekend???

I have no idea how good the food is, but if we are there, I bet it'll be the safest spot in Houston!

Anyone want to forward this to TC???

Would it give them any reason to question their policy?

Heck no...

I bet there's a sign up at Ruchi's (by the end of the week) that is in neon lights that says:

"All Concealed Hangun Licence holders welcome"

"10% discount for CHL's"

- Thats if they are smart...

Well, in the eyes of an anti corporation, I'd say it probably reinforces their thinking. Given the situation of 6 armed perps holding up a place, their reasoning is going to be that if someone were armed and started shooting, it would provoke a firefight and a bloodbath would ensue. Given 6 armed robbers and only myself, I would say that I'd probably keep my gun holstered unless shooting started, and the logic works. A better example to give a company like Taco Cabana would be an incident with 1 or maybe 2 shooters, such as the Luby's in Killeen. In such a situation, the perp entered the store alone with the sole purpose of killing everyone there. This is a much more credible situation to present to an anti organization as to why they should let CHLers carry in their stores.
