What are the benefits of getting a Utah License? From what I gather it covers Washington and Ohio (Texas License doesn't). Anything else I'm missing?

I think more people got it when it was needed for Alabama (and a couple of other states). Texas has done a lot in the past year or two in area of reciprocity and thus the Utah license is of less value today. But yeah, it's cool too

I cost is a lot less than Texas. The renewal is only $10.00 every 5 years with no expenses on another class.

No really, the main reasons that people want a Utah CFP:

1. Additional Reciprocity: you add Washington state and Ohio to your Texas states.

2. Cost: The Utah initial license fee is $59, good for 5 years. The renewal is only $10 and you do NOT have to take a class to renew. Send in your money, get your renewal.

3. Eligibility: There are a few eligiblity requirements that might keep you from getting a Texas license, but would not matter to Utah. Such as money owed to the state for child support, taxes, and student loans. Also, some prescription drugs (anti-anxiety, anti-depressants, etc.) can cause problems for a Texas CHL, but not Utah.

And then, of course, there is the "cool kids" factor.

Yep. Cheap and easy. Plus there's a good number of Utah CFP Instructors around that got their credentials by mail before Utah changed their rules to require instructors to take that class IN Utah.

Is there a Utah CHL instructor in the DFW area that's a member of the forum? I am from OH and plan to visit family there soon. I would prefer to carry while visitng if I can. Anyone know if TX is working on reciprocity with OH?

That would be forum member llwatson. There might be others, but she is both a TX and UT instructor, and active on the forum.
