I submitted my application about two weeks ago, but now the site says down for maintance. So are they going to stop running applications during the shutdown?

It's the Federal government that is shutting down some of its operations. CHLs are processed and issued by the State of Texas. Any shut down for maintenance is almost certainly coincidental.

That is what I was worried about.

I assume this is automated and the computers are still running.

When I was fingerprinted in July, and the BI done, it was done by the private outfit and submitted to DPS within a matter of days, despite me living in CA the last 45 years. The image of FBI white-shirted technicians thumbing through fat books of records looking for your name are long gone.

the nics offices will remain open.
but i really wonder about is all the people with forms 1 and 4.

I was worried about that also but after checking almost every day, the application progressed until it came to security check. That took one day and today 10/5, my license arrived. I am relieved it finally came and I have been out twice with it.
