So a few months back I was digging around the interwebs trying to find useful things to use my GI Bill for. When I got out of the Air Force I went to college for a few semesters but I really hate school. Anyway, being in the IT field I was looking up certifications, and professional education and ran across this.

I thought it would be really cool to take something like this but as it is 19 straight days I never thought my 50+ hour a week job would grant me the opportunity to take this course. Well fast forward a few months and I have 14 days of vacation left and I ask my boss and low and behold, I get to take the course from Dec 1st through the 19th.

I am pretty excited about it considering other than some food everything is pretty much paid for through my Post 9/11 GI Bill.

Do you think you will be employable in that line after completing the course, or is it merely an interesting and fun way to use GI Bill entitlement? I mean no malice or disrespect in putting it that way.

I ask because it seems to me one will be competing with a great many ex-Special Forces operators for what seems like a very few openings, and if nothing else, the SpecOps community is a tightly knit fraternity of men whose reputations as seasoned operators are known to everyone else in that community. When I lived in Coronado, and knew a few dozen SEALs, mostly retired now, I was struck by the degree to which they seemed to know each other, across age, rank and geographical lines, and how much they watch out for each other. I would think getting into that line of work without the background, and contacts, would be very, very difficult indeed.

I am not looking to get into the business.

I am looking to learn what I would consider valuable life skills. If there are operators in my class(They hold this class quite often) that would be awesome. I would love to learn from them and take anything I can away from this opportunity.

I feel like this is the ultimate self defense class but WAY beyond that.

Sounds like your boss is thinking you would be a bonus to the team with those extra skills. Good luck!

Very exciting. I took a 60 hour personal protection course this year that included a few of those elements. Very valuable. Hope it is a good time.

That is a great question and one I would like to answer. If you are simply asking can I hit a target consistently at the range. Yup i would say above average. If you are asking can I run around, be stressed and under duress while firing on the move and be accurate and safe? I have no idea.

Operators need to shoot real well, move real fast and communicate effectively. Shoot, move, communicate, as needed.

So I graduated the class and I have to say it was pretty awesome.

I learned that I can actually shoot on the move and under pressure fairly decently for not having any practice or real life experience doing it.

I would definitely recommend the class to anyone who can use the GI bill and 3 weeks vacation to take it.

For not having alot of practical experience I would say they were pretty spot on.

My biggest screw up during the class was during a detail. Our "Limo" came under attack. Our driver (instructor) went down with a headshot and I immediately started trying to do a driver down drill as he was yelling at me that the limo was down. It took me a few seconds to realize he was saying "Limo down" and he wouldnt let me take over the vehicle.

After that we got our client into our secondary vehicle and started doing our MARCH assesment (applying tourniquet and other med care as needed) really quickly and got off the X.

Instructors said we did really well.
