Home brew cleaners and lubricants.

Fr. Frog has an interesting section on his website on how to make your own cleaners, lubricants etc. Some of the recipes are a little too exotic for me, one I have made and love is Ed's Red.

Ed's Red is a heavy duty bore and general gun cleaning solvent. It will remove or soften the heaviest carbon fouling, loosen lead fouling, and with an additional ingredient, remove copper fouling. It stinks to High Heaven and isn't skin friendly, an AR BCG taken apart and soaked for 15-20 minutes is a lot easier to clean. A heavily fouled barrel shines with less work than with many other cleaners.

Here is the LINK to his cleaner recipes.

Look them over and don't forget to read anything else of interest you find. :tiphat:

I use straight ATF for handguns and 22 rifles.

I didn't have all the ingredients for Ed's Red, so I made my own with straight acetone and transmission fluid. Left some cosmoline covered parts soaking in that mix for a few days in the shed, and they came out squeaky clean.
