Goal #2 - Change "Concealed Carry" to just "Carry"

If Open Carry were an option, I don't think I would use it very often but...

Unfortunately for those who want open carry (I admit I am not among them), there is no support in the Legislature. The "out-of-sight-out-of-mind" element is a major aspect among House Members and Senators. Many of them who are supporters of CHL foresee a return to the fear-mongering days prior to 1995 and again being in the political spotlight on the gun issue.

I'm not trying to start another pro v. con discussion on open carry, we've already done that. I'm merely pointing out political reality in Austin.

Charles - do other states with OC have a politcal headache, or did it become like our chl, where its a non-issue?

It's wild what a few state lines can mean.

I got hung up on the Open Carry issue when I heard that Minnesota had a Carry Permit not a "CONCEALED" Carry Permit.

Minnnesota is not a state that I think of a strong 2nd Amendment supporter.

They have certainly had their ups and downs with their Carry law.

There may be a direct relationship to Open Carry (or maybe not).



All in all, I prefer moving forward toward our goals without all the ups and downs.

2007 may be too soon for Open carry in Texas but...

Minnesota went from nothing to "Carry". Churches ganged up, sued, and won. The was passed again, without the issue in the lawsuit. Something about the law was unconstitution because there was more than one topic in the law.

Ohio couldn't get a concealed carry law passed or signed. The courts ruled that Open Carry was constitutional. The "next week" Ohio got a CHL Law.


Arizona and New Mexico never lost open carry.

Virginia has open carry. It's required where alchol is served. They are trying to get that changed. (I was there in September and chose to UNpack when I went out to eat. You may call me a sissy, but I couldn't bring myself to openly carry a 1911 into a restaraunt, in another state.)

For me I dont think I would open carry much, but it would be nice to lazily conceal, meaning, shorts, OWB, and tshirt, if it shows it shows, but doesnt draw alot of attention. Or the bottom of hte barrel can show and no love lost, no FTC.

Open carry isn't a great idea, tactically. I think most folks agree on that.

I also know that many people choose to not carry during summer months, rather than risk inadvertantly exposing their pistol.

For that very reason, I support changing the CHL to a "carry" license. And from there, it's a very short step to Alaska carry.

I agree, it may be a bit too much for 2007, but you never know what the temperature will be like at that time for an issue like this...
