ANTIOCH, Ill. (AP) — A north suburban man is facing felony charges after police say he shot himself in the arm and then lied about it.

The News-Sun reports that 18-year-old Colin Henderson was charged with filing a false police report and possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner's Identification Card.

Officers responded to Henderson's Antioch home Monday morning in reference to a call about shots fired.

Henderson had a gunshot wound in his left upper arm and told police he had been shot by someone who had driven away.

After giving a conflicting report at the hospital, Henderson later admitted to police that he shot himself to get attention.

Sounds like he needs some help. I don't think putting him in jail is the answer.

:iagree: Jail would probably make it worse.

I couldn't see the case being prosecuted, but then saw that he did have his "firearms identification card"... I mean every good comrade should have their card.

Carrying on from yesterday, I am thankful for the love and attention I received as a younger person. I cannot imagine where this young person is coming from to do something like this, and I am grateful for that.

Is it illegal to shoot yourself on purpose?

Not in Texas that I know of. But it is illegal to call the police and make a false report about it.

It probably is if you do it within city limits. Not shooting yourself per se, but discharging a firearm.

It may not be illegal but it is definitely not considered to be in good taste or proper procedure.

sad....just sad...but, I'm a mom, and I just have to think, what is going on in that kid's life that makes him think that that is the only/best way to get attention? I hope he doesn't go to prison, but to a decent place to get some help, and home may not be the place?

:iagree:
He needs professional help in a facility.

I know back in the early 80's it wasn't.

But now you would be required to have some sort of mental intervention.

Being 18 though will cause a bit of confusion, some docs, and his parents (if they are decent) will want to treat him as a kid, others will want to treat him as an adult.

18 year old that shoots themselves is going for a ride to a hospital with a mental health hold.
