If she has small hands you want the gen 4. If you plan on getting a third mag get the gen 4. At the gun shows there is usually only $35 diff between the two.

I used extended mag releases on my Glocks and haven't had a problem with the holsters I use unintentionally releasing the mag. I do round off the edges a bit because sometimes the corners of the release would dig/pinch my skin and shirt.

My wife likes my G27 with no backstrap, but she says it's too wide for her to carry. The texture isn't near what I thought it would be. It's not too rough to carry. If your wife is fine with the size, I'd say get the Gen 4 just for the versatility. My wife prefers thin guns, so she won't carry double stacks.

I haven't had any problems, granted my holsters don't cover the mag release anyways (not sure if there are others out there that do).
glock27 wrote:And i personally had no problem with the old grip the new grip seems like it may have tendency to grab and snag shirts as it seems too rough? Am i overthinking this?
No, and yes. ;-)
Seriously, I have had no issues with the grip texture catching any more than my other guns (non-Glocks); the new grip texture was one of the reasons I got the 4 instead of the 3.
glock27 wrote:Also im pretty sure my old gen had a double recoil spring did it carry over or change up?
I'm not an expert on this subject, but from what I understand both generations of the subcompacts had the dual springs and that the dual springs were a new design for the larger Gen4 models, so the 26 and 27 were unaffected in this respect.
glock27 wrote:Is there a downside to a made in USA glock over austria?
Are they really being made here now? And I guess "here" would be Smyrna, GA. I bought mine new last summer and it says "Austria" on the slide and "Made in Austria; Glock, Inc. Smyrna, GA" on the frame fwiw.
glock27 wrote:Ive heard the finish is different...

How many variants of finish are there? Whats the best?
I've heard some people have doubts/dislikes with the new finish that the Gen4s have, but mine has not had any issues. It seemed like fear of change to me. I wouldn't worry about the finish, with either one if you manage to wear it out there are plenty of refinishing options. If you wear the gun to that point, the amount spent on ammo and range fees will likely outstrip the cost of a slide refinishing by a wide margin.

Overall I've been extremely satisfied with my Gen4 26, so much so that as a previous "Glock-disliker" (not quite a hater) I'm actually thinking of selling my other handguns and going all Glock, all Gen4.

The Gen 4 Glocks are great. No issues. I find that I'm always looking to buy more of them.

glock27 wrote:Can all gens of glocks be fired with the magazine release disconnect option?

I was reading other forums and i guess gen 4 are not on the magazine disconnect list for CA does that mean the 3s do have it?

For a ccw i think it shoulf be able to fire regardless of mag state.

Does my xds have one?

Thank you all for yalls responses.
I can only speak to my experiences with my own pistols; I have a gen 3 g27 and an xds 45 and neither have a mag disconnect. I am under the impression that they are typical for their types.

I will have the same guns as you in a carry rotation. Xds and a baby glock. Do you find yourself at situations where you are able to conceal one over the other? I can take my xds everywhere regardless of what im wearing. I had a 27 awhile back but my level of concealment is deeper now than when i had it. Just curious if my glock would sit or of the rotation would be fairly equal...

Thanks

I've had both the XDs and the baby Glock. I still have the glock - the XDs is gone. I can definitely tell the difference in thickness between the two when carrying from a comfort standpoint (the XDs being more comfortable). Having said that, carrying IWB I could wear a fairly snug tshirt without anyone being able to tell I was carrying with either gun. Both conceal extremely well.
So, why do I still have the glock and not the XDs? 50% more ammo capacity with basically the same conceal-ability. I was more than willing to sacrifice a little comfort in order to have the extra capacity. Now if glock comes out with a single stack 9 that is the same size as the G42 I'd consider it as a bug to my baby glock.

glock27 wrote:Did you typically carry the 26owb?

Iwb is the only way i am able to carry. The xds is great at 3-430. but i think if i got the 26 i may have to veer closrer to 430.Where did you carry? Owb or iwb?
IWB above right back pocket (right handed). Exactly the same place/method I carried the XDs.

I actually went and got the Glock after I had the XDS. I had an M&P compact before and found that it was too heavy and a bit too large for certain carry methods. I then got rid of it and got the Glock after noting the Glock weighed about the same as the XDS. The thing I like about the Glock over the XDS is the capacity and the length of grip. I am really impressed with the glocks size/weight to power ratio. I have always gotten the "willies" over only having 5+1; granted they are large bullets but I know that if I'm being honest with myself, in a high stress self defense situation, I'd likely miss a time or two. I have not carried anything else after I got my 27; I'll likely continue to cull the heard and can see only having my 27 and my j frame eventually...between the two I can't see a situation where I'd need anything else.
