My daughter's best friend is recovering from being assaulted Monday with a hammer and robbed at a Metro Bus stop at Fondren and Westheimer. Underwent surgery to replaced portions of her skull crushed by the blows. I think the intent was to kill her as she was struck three times total. She had complained to Metro several times about no lighting with no remedy and a little after 6 AM Monday January 20, she became a victim of their negligence. My daughter's fiance works at a hospital and has many friends in HPD and SO that work security there, so he talked to them and they had not heard anything about it. His friends called Metro and they had no record of any assault, but said they'd look into it. Their excuse was that she had walked to a store after the attack, so it wasn't on them. The perp left the hammer at the site and her friends found a trail strewn with contents from her purse leading to an apartment complex. As of today Jan 24, HPD has not even interviewed her. Oddly the nurse told the girl,s mother there were two other women in the same hospital still in comas that were attacked under similar circumstances. At least my daughter's friend regained consciousness but still suffers confusion at times. My wife called a couple of stations inquiring about similar attacks with no results. The girl's mother caught a TV news team at the hospital covering the deputy injured recently in a car wreck and they sent a reported out yesterday. Don't know what if any action will result. I don't know if Metro wants this kept under wraps, but with three attacks per the LEO's something is odd here. All you Metro riders be careful. BTW she only had $3 in her purse. She's worried her hair wont grow back to be maid of Honor at my daughter's wedding in September, Bless her heart. Please pray she will make a full recovery.

I'm so sorry, poor girl.

This is both heart breaking and horrifying.

Wow, this really is heartbreaking and horrifying.

My wife rides the Metro bus to work downtown every day.

Man, as a father of a 17 year old daughter, that horrifies me. I am glad she is OK

Can you clarify what happened after the assault? She went into a nearby store where the people called 911? Did the police go out?

Please tell your daughter and her friend I'm sorry for what happened to them. I hate to hear when perps attack women or anyone really but especially women. I tell my wife to always keep her head up when out and never hang around anywhere for long. We don't ride any buses or spend much time in Houston at all. There is nothing in that city that I can't find where I live or can get online. Not saying where I live is any safer, but I know where to stay away from.

Again sorry your duaghter's friend had to go thru that I wish her a speedy recovery so she can stand in that wedding and hope that perp gets what he deserves or maybe he already is.

Prayers for your daughters friend. Hope she fully recovers and the HPD gets in gear to investigate these and try to stop any future attacks.

I will tell you what I know. The perp is Hispanic male, was waiting at the bus stop when she walked up. She turned away for an instant and he went to town on her.
She woke up and walked to the store and they called 911 and an ambulance came. While she was in the ER her mother was requesting that HPD be called to report the incident. I don't know if they made the call to HPD or even when it was done, but eventually they were in the loop. HPD had it as only robbery, no assault. She has a case number, but as of last night HPD hasn't called or visited to take her statement. She is home now and Channel 2 came last night while my wife and daughter visited. (Channel 2 was at the hospital covering the Deputy injury case and her mother approached them to let them know of her daughter's incident) They took a lot of pictures and talked to her quite a while. The young lady actually picked up the hammer and carried it with her, but she has no idea why. Also, when she woke up she saw what she thought were her glasses beside her and put them on. She couldn't understand why she couldn't see clearly until later when she realized they were the perp's. He jumped on her as she was lying there losing consciousness. With those two pieces of evedence and the contents of her purse handled by the perp I hope there's enough interest on HPD's part to look for this guyStill no word on Metro investigating, I only know the LEO's my daughter's fiance spoke with called them. I know HPD has hundreds and hundreds of cases, but if indeed there are at least two other victims as the nurses stated then the investigation needs to be stepped up in my opinion. I saw pictures of the young and it's ugly. Three separate places and one is about 5 inches long so I assume that's where the surgery to replace the skull was located. If I get additional info I will post it.

What's also unfortunate is that employers who don't allow guns at the office deny bus riders the means to defend themselves en route since there's no place to leave the gun such as parked car.

One more good reason to drive.

Unfortunately, no car. She's a poor student. If she hadn't won a scholarship she would be able to attend school.

I find it disturbing that the FD would be dispatched but not the PD. Odd

Prayers for the young lady.

This is nightmare material, especially for those of us who are parents. Do they know if she saw this guy before the attack or did he come out of nowhere and surprise her?

I think he said he was standing at the bus stop when she walked up.

I drive my daughter nuts with my constant warnings. When I read stuff like this, it leaves me wondering if I should just tell her to stay in the house. I suppose I could tell her to avoid getting within 50 feet of anyone she doesn't know but living in any large city all but eliminates this option.
