Academy Sports and Outdoors has the following 10 semi-automatic handguns on sale
from January 26 through February 1, 2014.
All 10 are in the calibers of 9MM, .40, or .45 ACP.
Smith and Wesson SD VE pistol, 9MM/16 + 1; .40/14+1. DAO, 4.00" barrel, $289.99.
The list price on this pistol = $379.99.
"Combat Handguns" magazine, March 2014 edition, page 28 has a complete review of
this pistol. This pistol has no manual safety. It does not have a magazine safety, so if
you drop the mag and there's a round in the chamber, it WILL fire.
Trigger pull = 8.0 pounds. The cleaning breakdown is similar to a Glock. Grip angle = 18 degrees.
This pistol is NOT the discontinued Sigma series. It has a 1" long Picatinny rail on which a laser or
light can be mounted.
The sights are adjustable for 1 type, but not the other. Windage vs. elevation - I can't remember which one.
The author took a brand new .40 version to the range and ran 200 rounds of varied ammo
through it without any problems. He would feel confident in this weapon for self defense.
Taurus PT609, 9MM, 13 + 1, DA/SA, $299.99.
Stoeger Cougar, 9MM, 15 + 1, DA, $349.99. This pistol is similar to a Beretta for less money.
Beretta Nano, 9MM, 6 + 1, DA, $399.99.
Smith and Wesson M & P, 9MM/17 + 1; .40/15 + 1. DA. $499.99.
Beretta PX4 Storm, .40, 14 + 1, DA/SA, $519.99.
Glock 17, 9MM, 17 + 1, DA, $529.99.
Glock 23, .40, 13 + 1, DA, $529.99.
Citadel 1911, Compact, .45 ACP, 7 + 1, SA, $549.99.
Remington 1911, Government model (5.00" barrel), .45 ACP, 7 + 1, SA, $699.99.
