I have some of both.

The Troy has the benefit of the built in pull, if you want to go that route, or remove it if you dont like it. All of my Pmags and Troy mags have functioned flawlessly since purchase.

I have a bunch of Pmags in a box for future use, as I was able to find them easier, and cheaper. Recently I have seen the Troy mags well under $10, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy those either. Given the same price, I would buy Pmags just because they are the industry standard for polymer mags.

I'm looking into whether one is superior to the other.

I've read the Troy mags are lighter in weight than the Pmags, a good thing. However, some also said the Troy mags felt flimsy vs. the more rugged Pmags.

So, I'm trying to get a feel for which is best when I go to buy more mags and if the Troys are less costly. That being said, I don't care to save money on the Troy's though, if they're somewhat inferior, if of course, they are inferior...?

Ill check weights and answer anything specific when I get home tonight and have them in front of me.

I normally just grab a few mags when going to the range, without any real concern about what mags I am grabbing, though I usually leave the metal ones at home cause them banging together is annoying... Never notice any difference other than the different feel from the texture.

From memory, the Pmags do feel like a more sturdy/thicker plastic, but that would just be by feel/squeeze test. Its not like I ever think to worry about flex in the mag.

Do a google/yahoo search for ar15 polymer mag comparison and look for a thread on ar15.com. Some guy tested about 6 different mags (though that was a couple years back, changes may have been made).

Simple answer. The Army's 75th Ranger Regiment uses Pmags. As do a lot of the other Spec ops outfits.

Have you looked at the Troys?

They do seem to have a very grippy surface and the bottom design looks easier to manipulate. Is it? I don't know...

I've got some Pmags and I've no complaints, but hey, if there are other mags on the market equal to Pmags, but with an improved design in some manner, shape or form, I want to know about them.

Or, if in fact, they're not as good.

I'm always looking into improvement, or the, ah ahem, "Bravo Sierra".

I don't know if the Troy mags are lighter or not, but the P-Mags don't really weigh much. Unless you're trying to control your all-up weight down to the last gram, I'm not sure that there would be an effective difference.

One thing I have noticed is that since Magpul came out with the P-Mags, other manufacturers have had to step up their games with their own polymer products. I have seen (and once ignorantly purchased) some that were just plain junk in the past. However, ever since that one purchase of off-brand polymer mags several years ago, I have purchased P-Mags exclusively and have been very happy with them. I'm not saying that Troy's aren't as good, or that some other manufacturer's aren't as good; I'm just saying that I haven't had any incentive to change.

One thing about polymer mags that I have discovered, including about P-Mags, is that they are NOT maintenance-free like many people think they are. Yes, they are very forgiving of irregular maintenance—just like Glocks are legendary for being forgiving of irregular maintenance—but that doesn't mean that you don't ever have to clean them, just like you should still keep your Glock clean. If you shoot a lot, you should occasionally clean your P-mags. But, since they are made of polymer, be certain that your cleaning products are going to be compatible. Whatever you use to clean your polymer-framed pistol would probably be more than adequate for cleaning your polymer magazines.

AndyC has a signature line that reads "Amateurs skip safety-checks - pros don't." Well, you might apply that same line to cleaning/maintaining your equipment; and a magazine that doesn't function properly will turn your semiautomatic AR15 into a single shot straight-pull bolt rifle. So whether you buy the Magpul or the Troy magazines (or some other manufacturer's), don't skip the maintenance just because they are polymer.

My understanding is the Troy mag bottoms are brutal to remove, so there's one negative check mark...

Unless you're counting pennies, they're cheap enough so that you should be able to buy a couple to put into your rotation and play with them for a while. After all, the only opinion that really matters is yours (not meaning that in a bad way) after all.

You may not need to be warned about ProMags but I made a real mistake a few years ago thinking Pmags and Promags were the same magazines. Fortunately I only purchased one promag for my SKS. That thing has never worked properly. I could not get my rounds to load in it without a fight! Pmags=good. Promags=Garbage. IMHO. I threw it in the garbage just the other night.

Since we're discussing mags, here a snippet from another thread I started about a good deal on Pmags, see below:
