I am researching this rifle in 300 Win Mag for Target shooting:
Any feedback from your experience with such a rifle?

I shot a friends SSG in .308 a few times.
One of the sweetest shooting rifles I've ever fired.

I think they're too pricey for what you get. I have a Savage 110 FCP-HS Precision in 300 WM and it's absolutely amazing. I've added extra features on that bring it to the SSG 04 level, but you could just jump to the Savage 110 BA and be done with it (

What are you grouping at 100 yrd?
I paid almost the same price of the Savage 110 BA,

Now what scope should I start saving my gold coins for?

I'm easily sub-MOA at 100yds, and pretty close to sub-MOA at 1000yds. Currently running a Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 4.5-14x, which easily gives me a good picture at 1000yds. I will probably switch to the new Vortex Viper PST 6-24 (
http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/vor ... le/reticle" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) soon, as I intend to run this Savage out to 1600yds. It's extremely stable at 1000yds, so there's no reason to think I can't stretch it with the right optics.

Amazingly I was looking at this scope:

Also to consider, NF and maybe some German optics.

I will second what OldCannon has said. There are two ways to go here: high dollar or low. The Savage will give great performance for the buck if money is a concern. You can easily learn to gunsmith a Savage with none of the hassles of others. Even change barrels and calibers in about 15 minutes once you practice.
If I'm thinking I feel rich, then there are only a few I will look at. I have a GA Precision that I dearly love. It cost as much as my 1973 Volkswagen bought new did, but boy, does it ever shoot. I sold all my other long range rifles to finance it. Does the GA shoot THAT much better than my best Savage did? Truthfully, no. But it sure is handsome.
Edit to add: I would haunt places like Sniper's Hide if I were doing it all again. Lots of good recommendations there. Just my opinions.
