Any input based on experience on

the TAURUS " The Judge " ?

My son thinks this would be

a great HOME DEF. WEAPON.

Speaking purely as a keyboard commando, I think a five-round alloy-frame revolver is not a good choice for home defense.

For $300 you can get a .357 Magnum 6-round revolver and a 12-gauge shotgun (used, beat-up but functional).

I just shot one this weekend and it was a blast. Really fun to shoot, with surprisingly low recoil. Shot amazingly well and accurately with slugs and .45 LC. Buckshot was scattered, and shotshell wasn't worth a damn except for really close snakes. We shot four hundred rounds through it and didn't experience any problems. But it's not make for speed loads... shot loads seem to take a bit of coercing to come out. Overall, I was pretty impressed with it.

On the other hand, I won't ever own one.

I have a little experience with the .410 in a T/C Contender pistol. Essentially a .45 Colt with a long chamber, it has a screw-on choke that squeezes down the shot column and arrests the "spin" put on by the rifling, so I'd wager the patterns are much better than from the Taurus revolver.

Even were it a repeater, I would NOT consider it a good defense weapon.

Actually, I don't consider shotshells - even 12 ga - with small shot - to be good choices for personal defense; unless the BG is so close he'll be singed by muzzle blast, penetration may be problematic.

From a short-barreled .410 revolver - uh uh. The only way to be reasonably sure to stop a BG is to hit him in the face and "hope" you maim him by taking out his eyes . . . and I find that thought more distasteful than putting him down with COM hits from a .357.

Even .410 buckshot from a short revolver barrel is inferior to any of a number of other rounds.

Save the .410 handgun for snakes.

Small sholt may not be the best home defense choice and a short barreled handgun with small shot is even less effective but a tactical .410 (18" barrel pistol grip pump) loaded with slugs or 000 Buckshot is an awsome home defense choice.

The term "tactical .410" is one that I haven't encountered before . . . and hope I won't again. (And though I wouldn't describe it as "awesome" myself, I won't volunteer to stand in front of one!)
