Spin-off of "Looking for Statistics" Thread

So I don't hijack a thread, here's my new question...

I was discussing the statistics brought up in the "Looking for Statistics" thread with a CHL co-worker today, of course the thread lead on to discussions of of CHL holders involved in defensive shootings. Co-worker asked me why I carry a revolver since I only have 5 or six shots. I informed him I always carried an extra speedloader and that I felt comfortable with the revolver and it's ability to perform it's job, and that I also had heard quite frequently that the average number of shots fired in a defensive situation are quite low. However I could not give him any sources for this information. Sooo...

I tried a Google search using many different wordings for this information, but the closest thing I could come up with was the NYPD report from 2000 for shots fired by officers. Not quite what I was looking for.

Does anyone keep statistics for the info I'm looking for in regards to civilian defensive actions?

I don't know of any statistics. No one is paid to collect them. Just anecdotal information.

I don't know about averages, but the median number of shots fired is zero. The majority of DGUs have no shots fired at all.
