Surprise! Chicago lowers murder rate by cooking books

I've read of other big city PDs "adjusting" their crime classifications to make things look better, but Chicago is going full-bore. They're reclassifying murders as "death investigations" (among other strategies) and letting murderers go free in order to produce their "miraculous" drop in murders.

Via Arms and the Law, Chicago Magazine has a two part article:

The Truth About Chicago’s Crime Rates

The second part will run in the June issue (which I believe will come out in early May. This May issue was published 7 April).

The article mentions the blog Second City Cop. That blog has been talking about this for a long time. SCC is not very complimentary - to put it mildly - about any of the city mayors and alderman, past or present. It seems to have a large following up there, I a surprised the Democrat machine hasn't found a way to shut it down, given the other shenanigans they pull.

Grew up there. Par for the course.

Nobody is surprised, nobody is outraged. And they don't care to shut down critics or whistleblowers, nobody has the will or power to change things.

Sometimes laughter is better than righteous despair.

I remember a few colleges would let the local PD work a lot of the "big bad" cases (rape, murder, most robberies) so the local college PD and thus the college can claim a clean record. People and places will always try and find a way to make them selves look better, even at the cost of the people they are put there to protect.
