If there's a car backfire, I know at least one proud father-in-law who will be standing there with his left hand on his waist and his right hand feeling for something that's missing from his right hip...

YEP. Figure on the shoulder rig tomorrow & just take it out til we get back in the truck. Empty holster gouges me way worse than a full one.
I will have a cane.

My daughter graduated from the University of RI in 2001. They too have a "gun-free" campus. But it's just by virtue of a university rule. Employees and students are affected, as they can be fired or expelled.
But my RI permit was still good at the time. And RI, like most of the "restrictive" states has almost no restrictions at all of where people who are lucky (or connected) enough to actually GET a permot may carry.
(I think the theory in these states derives from the fact that only "special" people can get permits. Being "special", they are more or less entitled tp dp what they want - unlike ordinary taxpaying fools like you. I was in no way "special" myself. I had just learned how to correctly game the system.)
So the university rule did not apply to me - at least with any force of law. The most they could have done was ask me to leave. They didn't.
So I was well protected throughout the whole ceremony - as were those around me, whether they knew it or not.

Went then to the house & ate more than enough.
Glad he is out. Thanks for all the congrats.

Congratulations to the SIL!
I love the "cane", extremely versatile weapon with just a little training.
Anyone interested in a defensive "cane' seminar?

It would have to be geared to a real cripple.
You have already helped me a lot with thrusts & strikes. I think that is what you called it. I have been practicing.

Flint got me some fine stick's for helping to move cow's around when you are on foot and working the pen's, the younger men are more often in the pen's so mine get more use as walking stick's or what ever you might need a good solid stick for when out walking early in the morning
I also have a ''cane'' [ I am really down in my back today so I am actually useing it as a cane ] that I inherited from my Father-In-Law, it's a straight 3 ft hard wood with an old Glass Diamond and Brass door knob on the end, some of you older Folk's will remember those, he promised it to me year's ago when I first saw it, but wouldn't let me have his fine leather spring Sap, Sis-in-law had spoke for that.
