A couple of weeks ago I sent my application to DPS which included a letter from my department head as required to get the Peace Officers discounted fee and ability to bypass the CHS course. Today I get a letter from DPS telling me the letter from my department head isnt going to be accepted. I am the elected constable in my precinct and department head. There is no one higher ranking than me in my office, so I had no choice but to write my own letter. lol. On the letter from DPS on the side, handwritten and high lighted it says "You Can Not Write Your Own Letter". So as Im sitting on hold to talk to a rep, I am typing this post trying to figure out where I need to get this letter from.....
This should be interesting.

I called and was told the county judge, mayor could write it. I asked about a county commissioner and was told "sure". So I guess we will see.

That is EXACTLY what they (DPS) told us in my CHL Instructor course, "You can not write/sign your own letter." Get another official ie: DA, Sherriff, Commissioner, etc to sign.

I'll write your letter, I'm the retired president of the Alvin Library Board. My letter and $4.25 will get you a grande coffee from Starbucks.

Rules are rules. I can't imagine anyone accepting a self-written and signed letter.

No sir! I used Mrs *******. Once, my buddies and I took a day off from school that turned into a one week hiatus for our fishing and exploring excursions. We got hooked on freedom and I think it was Tom Sawyers fault. Made it back in to school the following week no problem. Safe, until my teacher ran into my mom in the grocery store a few days later. The teacher never knew what I did but I never did it again. I learned small towns were VERY small and moms were VERY awesome. Think I was grounded for the entire summer on that one...
