I heard last night that pepper spray was used to disorient and incapacitate the victims in these cases...

The timing of our last discussion, and the occurance of these incidents is interesting...

Admittedly, I was "slightly" skeptical of the widespread usage of pepper spray, by criminals, to gain some sort of advantage over a victim...

Makes you kinda rethink how much of a personal "bubble" you may believe you need around you these days...

But anyway, though some folks might like to keep up the discussion about this...

Not long ago, I wandered through the living room while one of the "clip shows" was on. For whatever reason, shows that feature dashboard-cam clips from LEO vehicles are extremely popular.

Anyway.

Two thieves stole a window AC unit from a store. LEO intercepted them in the parking lot. One of the thieves sprayed the LEO right in the face with a canister of pepper spray.

If criminals are bold enough to attack an LEO with pepper spray, then there is no reason to believe that they will go easy on a victim.

As for Wal-Mart: it's very difficult to maintain a personal bubble of any useful size in there during daytime hours. The store isn't overly crowded at night, but that brings up the problem of the dimly-lit parking lot.

Absolutely...

This situation is broader than most care to discuss, because we do know the sensitivities and demographics of the largest and most successful businesses in the world...

This "stick your head in the sand and hope the numbers are good every quarter" mentality by WalMart is going to catch up to them, and it has everything to do with the volume of customers coming into their stores...

WalMart and other establishments like this will continue to field the golf cart driving yellow flashing light 85 year old retiree as an effective visual deterence to criminal activity...At least thats what they'll accept as effective...

But as far as how this effects us...I don't see anything forcing businesses like this from changing anything...

They'd be willing to accept the risk of crimes being committed on their property as part of doing business...

I'm kinda sitting back here thinking what is going to be the "real" public reaction to an incident involving a CHL and someone in a WalMart parking lot...I don't believe I'm going to be surprised at all...
