Awesome article! It's the duty of all able-bodied Law Abiding Americans to be armed to protect themselves, their families, their communities and their country. Nice to see people learning to take that responsibility....

Better than the usual liberal tripe, but she still spouts the same bogus statistics the anti-crowd spouts --all of which are lies.

She mentioned statistics, but doesn't really cite them, and then dismisses them as irrelevant. Maybe I read a different article.
I thought it was a good, well-reasoned piece. And from a Philosophy professor, no less.
Thanks for posting, Andy

The thing from the article that stuck out for me was
Mind you, I was raised by conservatives, but Mormons trend towards a communitarian, good-government brand of conservatism.
This may be "profiling", but every Mormon that I have met owns a gun.

I thought it was a requirement along with basically being a prepper.

When you think about it, it would be ridiculously insulting to tell a responsible, loving father of three that he shouldn’t own a firearm because he’s far more likely to use it to kill his wife than to protect his family.
It’s distressing that people so often fail to take this seriously. A relative was appalled that my husband would want a gun “with little kids in the house.” It didn’t seem to occur to her that that was precisely why he wanted it; as a bachelor he never worried about such things. Now he feels responsible for the safety of our children, and for my safety. Reflecting on the matter, I realized that I too implicitly assign him that role. If we were woken in the night by the sounds of an intruder, and he asked me to go check it out, I’d definitely feel betrayed.
..................
And on some level, I wouldn’t really want my sons growing up with the Gun vs. No-Gun paradigm. I want them to be the sort of men who protect their families. I want them to see the distinction between embracing violence, accepting it and opposing it. I like the idea that taking care of people will mean more to them than just calling the professionals.
Did I just feel a fresh breeze?

Yes, she dismisses them as irrelevant but she refers to them as if they are true and does not challenge or refute them. To say that statistics show you're 15 times more likely to shoot a family member but dismiss it as irrelevant still propagates and lends credence to a totally bogus claim. It lets the ignorant think that, see, even this woman who supports gun ownership accepts the claim as true, though she dismisses the relevancy.
